Hyam Signs New Deal
Hyam Signs New Deal
Wednesday, 1st Feb 2012 16:51

Midfielder Luke Hyam has signed his new one-year deal with the Blues, taking him up to the end of June 2013. The 20-year-old, a product of Town Academy, has recently broken back into the first team and along with Andy Drury is keeping senior players such as Jimmy Bullard and Grant Leadbitter out of the side.

Former Northgate High School pupil Hyam told the club site: "I'm delighted to have signed the new deal and now I'm looking to push on with Ipswich.

“It was disappointing to be out of the side earlier in the season, but I've worked hard and forced my way back into the team and I'd like to think I've been rewarded with this new contract.

"The manager has told me to carry on working hard and I'm looking to become a regular in the side now.

"I'm really enjoying my football at the minute and it's great to be playing regularly for Ipswich."

Town are still waiting on Josh Carson to sign his new two-year contract, which includes an option for a third season, while Ronan Murray and Jack Ainsley have recently put pen to paper on new deals.

In a properly organised team he is very effective

As with Tommy Smith.

Young Sonko is a different kettle of fish. Not so much a teamplayer, not so skilled but with physical presence.

Get them all playing together and training together and they could be very effective.

Great news I think this lads the real deal and a battler to boot. Like others I would have liked to see him get a longer deal.

Wish that Clegg had only been given a one
Year deal.

Glad he signed, 1 year is a joke though and could cause problems. Another half decision which does not show intent. As for comparisons with creswell deal, luke has been here from school surley we must be able to judge if he is good enough or not. I wish the club could make posative decisions either get rid or keep long term. ie leadboots we could have got rid larst summer for 1.5m bid and saved his wages or if we thought good enough offered new contract. Make a decision uncertantity costs money and performance.

1 year deal?

So he impresses and walks away for free after this short term contract ends.

Great work again by those in charge at PR!

Luke showed great passion and heart last night against the hammers, so glad he is committed to us. Would like Carson to seal the deal now.

1 year - Nonsense!

Jewell has praised him for his efforts so why not give him a decent 2 or 3 year deal?...can see it now - this time next year, someone will be poaching him off of us because Clegg hasn't sorted a new deal out.....can't this club do anything right?

Brilliant news. Puts PJ's has been injury prone players to absolute shame. Very disappointed it has taken PJ a YEAR to go with youth. I still believe with a better manager this club will move forward. One great win in 17 is not good enough. Hopefully Jewell will be sacked soon and a new manager can push us on. PJ won't.

Well done Luke and very well played last night.
Keep up the good work until the end of the season and then Clegg will have to offer you a 3 year deal.

Could it be that offering them one year deal's keeps the wages and add on's down.and gets commitment from these players, who hope to get a new and better deal next time round. But would probably be offered the same length of contract, with slightly better terms, but not too much more. Just trying to see why only one year has been offered? What do you think? COYB

Let's hope Luke and Drury get another chance to impress before the inevitable tinkering. Well done lad and let's get Carson signed up to.

It is most interesting to see other peoples comments on this site. I admire the optimism and forward thinking of contributors such as Sindre94 & Tractastic. Fortunately, we do not appear to have a comment from DaleyITFC.

Having said this, I do have to agree with people who have criticised PJs policy of bringing in experience and have long thought that Hyam should've been given another chance. I do think that a contract of 1 year is a bit mean however.

Like many other contributors on here I have supported ITFC for over 40 years, and I really want to see ITFC become a club that people are proud of and want to support and be associated with.

With respect to the recent Portsmouth debacle, I, like many others I'm sure, were glued to their TWTD site, waiting for headlines such as "Pompey trio sign!!". Alas, it was not to be. . . However, after last nights 5-1 drubbing of the 'ammers, I do find myself wondering if it wasn't such a bad thing after all.

All we can do is keep the faith and keep our fingers crossed.

PS. I still think Roy Keane put this club back by 5 years !!

Thought he might get a two year deal, maybe at the end of the season?

I struggle with this phrase 'keeping senior players out of the side'. If that means older players, which it obviously does (!) let's call them that. As far as I can see the senior players, in terms of effort, ability, and actual effectiveness on the pitch, include Mr Hyam!
