Council Confirm Rent Agreement
Council Confirm Rent Agreement
Saturday, 11th Feb 2012 21:50

Ipswich Borough Council have confirmed that their dispute with the Blues over the back rent owed on Portman Road has been resolved, as first revealed by TWTD yesterday. Town will pay the £654,702 over six years or within a few weeks of the club winning promotion to the Premier League.

IBC leader David Ellesmere told the BBC: "Our annual spending is over £100 million and £650,000 is an awful lot of money for us.

"There was no way we could back down on that but we obviously wanted to do the best we could for the club.

"They are a huge asset for the town and we've always wanted to work with them as well as we can.

"We are happy. It seems a sensible compromise. We're getting the money we're owed but are not putting any undue pressure on the club."

A Town spokesman said: "We are pleased to see the conclusion of this matter."

Shame that under soil heating would cost much more than £654,702...

It's good to know that despite ME supporting this club financially, without which it would almost certainly have ceased to exist, the council see it purely as a revenue stream.

I hate public sector workers

When you consider we spent 5 million on leadbitter, 3 million on Priskin and around 20 k a week to Bullard paying the council rents that are due, 600k shouldn't really be too much to ask!

Why should the taxpayers of Ipswich pay for the cheap rent given to a multimillionaire.

Every 100k off the budget at IBC costs each household 1p in the pound on the council tax.So that is the equvalent of 7%rise on next years bill!!!!

The club like so many other buildings in the town had it so easy under th 25 wasted years of Labour and the suckers fell for it again last May by letting them back in!!!!No hope for some.

Blue Murder - I'll look forward to camping out on your land rent free then and I won't be using the money I save to heat swimming pools, maintain parks, provide football pitches, clean streets, look after vulnerable people, maintain roads, fire and rescue, police, housing etc etc.

The amount due was determined by arbitration. It is long since due. That means that throughout the negotiations, ITFC has been breaching its lease. If the Council were a commercial landlord it would have insisted on immediate payment, or at least payment much quicker than has now been agreed.

Yes, the Council is taking a far stricter stance than previously, but it has given ITFC a lot of leeway in coming to these terms, and that should be recognised.
