Manchester United Keeper Linked
Manchester United Keeper Linked

Town and Watford are being linked with loan moves for Manchester United’s 22-year-old keeper Ben Amos. Blues boss Paul Jewell is very much in the hunt for a new number one this summer with released Red Devil Tomasz Kuszczak understood to be top of his list of targets.

Capped by England from at all levels between U16 and U21, Amos started his career in Crewe’s youth set-up but moved on to Manchester United after being released by the Railwaymen as a 10-year-old.

After spells on loan at Peterborough, Molde in Norway and Oldham, and six cup appearances for United, the Macclesfield-born 6ft 3in tall keeper made his Premier League debut in January. Earlier today, he signed a new three-year deal at Old Trafford.

Jewell has said he ideally wants a permanent number one, but when speaking in April didn’t entirely rule out bringing in another loanee, although without the 24-hour recall clause that saw David Stockdale and Alex McCarthy return early to Fulham and Reading respectively last season.

The Blues would like to sign Kuszczak, who coincidentally was on loan at Watford at the end of 2011/12, but interest from a number of top flight clubs in England and Germany may mean they have to look elsewhere.

Former Peterborough keeper Joe Lewis was sounded out before he joined Cardiff, while Birmingham’s Colin Doyle has also been linked but with sources close to Portman Road playing down the Blues’ interest.

More nonsense from Walberswick - i blame Clegg for allowing him to not support town.

If this is true then Jewell has clearly learned nothing from last season!

I hope this is nothing more than media speculation.
We need a permanent number one keeper here, not a loanee. However, we do need a keeper of a good calibre as we've probably not had a good one since Alexander left (or Richard Wright at times during his second spell)
ALB tends to do well when he comes into the team and then drops off after a few mistakes/games so he's good enough as number 2. If, though securing the services of this high calibre keeper prove to be difficult then I would accept the signing of Amos (with no recall) over a not so good permanent signing.

Although I accept Championship clubs may require one or two season long loanees (without a recall clause) in the squad - GK is certainly one area where we need a permanent No. 1 - someone to make the position their own for several seasons to come. The GK loanees really didn't work out last season - and even PJ said it was important to get a permanent No. 1 in. Therefore, will be disappointed if PJ fails to learn from that mistake and opt for another loanee. Essential we build a team for the future - starting from the back.

Loans do not help with team consistency or building - unless it is with a view to a permanent move. With the exception of Bullard - the players listed in dirtyboy's post - are not at the club and some of them were only with us for a month or two. Overall they served a short-term purpose but nothing more - as we have had to go out and replace yet again.

Get Dean Gerken. He's a solid Keeper and might even be happy moving to Town. Who in their right mind would be happy to play understudy to David James? Put in a comfortable offer and I reckon he'll be our No.1 for years to come...

If Simonsen joins,we're doomed.. The bloke's the main reason why Blades didn't go up, notwithstanding Wembley. He couldn't catch a cold and is a sh*te communicator. Please please don't go there. Steve Harper would be my choice. Ok at 37, no spring chicken, but he's not getting a look in at Newcastle, and would, IMHO, be a great keeper for us. Bags of experience and very dependable.

This is load of media -rap. We do need a goalkeeper and we do need him to be a good one. We are starting to build a team of the future and it needs to be built on rock. Try to convince me that PJ has not learned the lesson of last year with his two loan keepers. The team need the knowledge of a good solid keeper behind them and all the confidence that will go with that. Phil, where on earth did you pick this one up from because who ever got bored and started it needs shooting. No, that would be too kind. COYB

Ben Amos is a very talented 'keeper. If we signed him we would be doing well. Yes, the lack of first team experience is a concern, but I understand that Sir Alex rates him.

...or, at least, somebody told me that I was..

even if this link is true, hasnt ne1 on here thought that actually we need to sign 2 keepers as you always need 3 keepers in your squad to cover for injuries/suspensions. so, just maybe we will sign 1 permanent then this guy could be the other choice.
