Clegg Carrying Torch
Clegg Carrying Torch
Thursday, 21st Jun 2012 12:52

Blues chief executive Simon Clegg will be carrying the Olympic torch through Keswick in the Lake District during the 92nd day of its tour of Britain later today. Prior to joining Town in 2009, Clegg, who is an official attaché for the Pacific island of Guam during London 2012, had spent 20 years and 12 summer and winter Games with the British Olympic Association as deputy general secretary and then chief executive.

The Town chief, who led Team GB to 47 medals - 19 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze — in Beijing as chef de mission four years ago, was involved with the 2012 bid from the start and was amongst those to sign the contract giving the Games to London.

He says he was pleased to be asked to take part in the torch relay: “I’m hugely flattered to have been invited to run with the torch carrying the Olympic flame from its journey from Olympia to London.

“Whilst my focus has for the last three years been on Ipswich Town, I could not pass this opportunity by, having spent so much of my career in the Olympic movement.”

The torch will be in 16 Suffolk towns and villages on July 5th, 6th and 7th, full details here.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Keith Andrews is reportedly close to joining Bolton Wanderers having turned down the chance to move to Celtic.

Bobblehat - yet again, for the umpteenth time I find myself having to tell you to get your facts right. I have name called NO ONE - what I have done is categorised certain people - THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

You continuously 'knock' people who DARE to mention anything negative - let this Club show me POSITIVES and I will be 100% behind it all.
Again, check ALL my previous posts if necessary, and FACT will prove, beyond any doubt that this is correct.

Don't, along with your colleagues, keep condoning what is currently going on at this Club - by doing so you will only succeed in it continuing.

WHERE ARE THE POSITIVES ??? - AT THE END OF JUNE - with the new season fast approaching !!
If it suddenly happens via Clegg, Jewell or whoever - I will be at the head of the queue in terms of support and backing. ABSOLUTE FACT - which 'if it happens' will be born out for you to see.

All I ever want is the best for this Club, and it's Supporters - because I care about both. Maybe far more than many in truth.

"and the rest i would imagine went toward the debt. "

eh !

A debt that has accrued through ME charging us interest on loans that cost him less than he is charging us.

Now explain to us what kind of player we will be able to sign without that £11m (or part of). A lower league teenager, a low grade European footballer who is out of contract .....

Just about sums up what we have sunk to

and the fear is there's nothing to suggest that our year on year sinking won't continue

h32 for the umpteenth time I do not get my facts wrong. In this thread alone u have called people SAD and LOSERS. You have called me similar on numerous occasions. Please don't try and call it categorizing, it makes u look ridiculous.
I don't knock people for having negative views . It is only people like u , newboy, righty and now it would seem Harry who do nothing but make only negative comments and who do it in such an arrogant manner and who are totally dismissive to anyone who has a different view.
Exactly it is the end of June ! The window isn't even open.
If by the start of the season we have no new GK or CB, fair enough I will join u in saying we should have done, but none of us know what work is or has been going on in regard to transfer targets.
I prefer to be reasonable and wait and see while u and your colleagues feel the need to criticise, as usual and without your beloved FACTS.
I don't doubt your desire to see the club do well but your way of expressing it IMO is dreadful.
I know u won't care what I think, but u can now categorize me again.

The sad thing is bobblehat that in your desperation to avoid reality you confuse 'facts' with your opinion, as in -

"If results pick up this year then next year the season tickets will be up"

as with the stuff about the £11m from sales, speculation not facts

It is not being negative to point our the reality of our situation. Real facts are that we have has LESS income year on year, LESS points and a LOWER league position along with LOWER attendances.

Add those to PJ's statement that he is hoping to get us above halfway and SC repeted comments about us having to break even, cut our cloth etc then it is not improbably to suggest that our slide will continue.

Your comments about who is worthy of making comment are ridiculous as most of us are not Formula owners, drivers or even pit mechanics but we can still see which car is coming in last, race after race.

Try taking an unblinkered look at our club and then tell us all where there has been any improvement since ME has been here - other than repainted turnstiles .... many of which will soon be redundant.

HARRY10 - Ok let me answer your points in order:

Yep that is opinion, whatever we all think of PJ/ME or SC i would wager my mortgage on the fact that if we had a good season and say finish around or in the playoffs we would sell more season tickets next year - would you disagree ?

The money - again yeah no facts because its a silly question. We are 60M + in debt and we got in that £11m, as i said some was re-invested in transfer fees and contracts but how can anyone , even in the accounts dept of the club say where exactly that money went - we are in debt, it went into the debt , isnt that obvious ?

next the negativity - no i agree its not being negative to point out things that you see as reality, what i said was if you read my post was that its the way some people express those comments - for example i rarely agree with Jas but i dont have a go at him because he isnt rude or dismissive of other peoples view.
I have said it lots of time before - you and h32 etc could be right, PJ /ME/SC may not be the people to take us forward but a lot of the criticism is total guess work.

I havent heard PJ say the top half of the table comment but i will take you at your word. Certainly i agree when Clegg says we have to cut our cloth etc. Dont You ?? Do u really want us to go down the road of Rangers/Pompey etc ?
If that means we have to settle for where we are then so be it, i would rather support a mid table Championship club than a Ridgeons league one.

I certainly never said anyone wasnt worthy of commenting on here, everyone is, so im not sure where you get that from.

Lastly - fair point that i may be a bit biased toward ITFC, i try not to be , but i may be at times. I certainly have no problem with people pointing out things that need to be though , as said previously it is just the manner of how it is done by some people that i dont like.

Bobblehat - with pleasure - because you are unbelievably blinkered, and to the point of disbelief. Sad but True.

.... and in reasonable debate should the words:- 'people I don't like' ever need to come into it ?- for all your critism of me, HAVE I EVER MENTIONED SUCH WORDS ??

NO - and I wouldn't. Gracefully stand corrected - and 'pigs may also fly'.

h32 - u have taken my last post the wrong way. That may be my fault, as I have missed out a comma.
What I was trying to say was it is how it is done by some people, that I don't like. In other words it is the manner in which u and others express things that i dont like , not that I don't like u and other people.
Apologies for the poor grammar.

Bobblehat - let's forget Football for now and focus on the MAN carrying the torch on the front page of today's EADT - take a bow L-Bdr BEN PARKINSON - a real MAN in every sense of the word. An absolute credit to his Family and our Country.

He is typical of the people that should be offered the chance of carrying Olympic Torches first and foremost, and without exception.

I do not know this person - but thank you Ben for making me proud to have served alongside people like yourself.
