Target Davies Close to Bristol City Move
Sunday, 19th Aug 2012 19:20

Derby striker Steve Davies, a Town target all summer, is reported to be holding talks with Bristol City, a fee believed to be £600,000 having been agreed between the clubs, while the player himself has tweeted that developments on his situation are likely to take place on Monday.

The Robins were previously reported to be talking to Davies, who is believed to have been the subject of the bid Town had rejected at the end of last week, in late July when manager Derek McInnes denied having any interest in the 24-year-old.

After a report claimed Davies was set for talks with City this evening, the player tweeted: "Big day ahead tomorrow. Time for bed. More info [for] you tomorrow."

The Blues have been after Davies since May but have so far been unable to agree a fee with the Rams, who are understood to want £1 million for the former Tranmere man.

Well what will be will be!

I am sure finding the right player at the right costs not impacting long term on our club is the best way to do business in the long term.

This may be painful for us fans short term but I feel will pay off in next couple of years.
There will be more clubs in trouble this year, hopefully we are keeping out of that zone.

Is this the same Bristol City who were going to sign Baldock the other week. i cannot blame Marcus Evans for not paying big money for a player with his injury record. Derby know if they do not sell him in the next two weeks they will not get much for him in January.

Who, for the next 11 days are we going to be linked with? Just hope we can add 1 or 2 before deadline day.

Not bothered if he does go there, I don't think he'll improve the team that much.

Interesting to hear the League Show comment on the introduction to the Ipswich v Blackburn game that Blackburn whilst dropping to the Championship are financially protected 'by the parachute payment ' and on 'the other side of the scale' they played against Ipswich. WTF!! I thought we were meant to be doing alright under Marcus Evans, obviously not and our spending so far this summer goes someway to proving that theory correct.

Forget him!

We should be spending our limited funds more wisely on a defender please.

Why does it seem that trying to sign a player for our club is like having root canal treatment without the anaesthetic?

If true ( Davies to Bristol), then give me bloody strength. How many more times will we waste MONTHS chasing a player then happily see them jioin another Club for barely a few quid more than our top offer! It beggers belief.

For those slating Davies for wanting to go to Bristol City and not here, well he can't come and talk to us if Derby wont accept our offer can he?

suffolkpunchdrunk - agree that it does seem very hard for us to ever sign anyone, other transfers seems to just happen, surely we cannot be the only club that struggles to sign players? I guess agents maybe but then going back 30-40 years we as a club rarely signed anyone and the youth team provided us with a great 1st team - those days are gone unfortunately!!

Given that jewell has chased him all summer I will be hugely disappointed if we lose out on him to Bristol city. We have a light squad and need new players with a point to prove and not loanees and premiership cast offs. A derby fan at work says he is a cracking player whom on his day reminds him of lambert at saints. anyway let's wait and see but it could be another name to add to jewells long long list of "the ones that got away"

@meekreech Thats why I was suprised to read this story. The person is usually spot on with their info... Im not arrogant enough to dismiss a stody I read on here outright. I would point out that if we had agreed a fee with DC there is nothing to stop him holding talks with BC as they may have matched our bid. And all of this is only applicable IF he is in talks with BC.

Many are knocking Steve Davies, but don't you think it's Derby who are making life difficult by holding out for a higher price than we, at least, are willing to pay? I don't see what decision Davies can make in that case. If Derby accept a bid from Bristol City but don't accept one from us, then Davies hasn't got much choice about where he's going.

Steve ITFC Sweden

If he does not want to go to Bristol he can refuse to go - turn down terms is one way , saying I do not want to go to Bristol to live is another ! He could find several more excuses but with agents wanting a cut they work for that not the players benefit !

Can't believe so much fuss over such an average player..

Could it be that Derby are unwilling to let Davies come here, prefering him to go to Bristol City as they dont see them as a threat to their own playoff ambitions?...Take that as a compliment then! If we play like we did in the last 20 mins against Blackburn (aside from some wayward crossing and garbage finishing) we may do well this year.

If 600K is the correct figure accepted by derby and ITFC have not matched that, then I am truly disappointed. How are we ever going to sign anyone decent if we are not prepared to pay that amount??

If its true then the club are a joke. Davies is a quality player and it was evident from Saturdays game thAt we need someone in the box who has the aerial ability & height to trouble the opposition's defence. Its is also appears that Davies is holding out to come here too, but can't wait forever whilst rotting in the reserves.

Come on Clegg - SORT IT OUT!!!!!!!!!

Can't see what all the fuss is about. I don't believe that Davies is the answer to our problems. It seems that every time we are linked with a player it becomes a do or die situation. PJ and Clegg know what we need and what is possible in terms of finances etc. We all know that we need more strength in depth but also want to avoid a repeat of the Healey, Ingamarsson, Sonko signings.

Do we truly believe that PJ and Clegg aren't desperate for success as much as we are?

If he's not the answer TooleyBlue (and I tend to agree with you) then why does he seem to be the only striker we are pursuing??? £1m for someone who has hardly played in 4 years is way over priced but £600K is much more in our ballpark!

Plus the last time i looked, Bristol wasn't very "south" of Derby so we should be in the hotseat to sign him yet 2 months since we heard about this and he's off to Bristol????
It will be a loan signing coming in and in my opinion they are not the answer.

What is the deal now with us looking at getting Sam Baldock?

Little man didn't even make the bench in Saturdays game against Villa??
