Rangers manager Ally McCoist has confirmed that the Blues have made an offer to US international midfielder Maurice Edu, but says the 26-year-old is yet to accept it.

McCoist said: "As far as I know, there has been an offer on the table from Ipswich which, as yet, he hasn't accepted.

"He trained this morning. I'm just hopeful something can be resolved sooner rather than later."

Edu, who said last week he was aware that Town were interested but that he knew nothing beyond that, has told the Glasgow side that he intends to move on.

Whether Rangers are entitled to a fee for the former Toronto FC man is not yet clear with contradictory reports circulating.

runaround added 20:43 - Aug 20 Would love Edu to sign for us but really dont think it will happen as I feel he would want a top flight club and gives me the impressions money and status would be more important than playing football(although perhaps that is just bitter experience of what other players and their agents are all about). The only way we could get him is if no-one else wants him but I get the feeling he will wait months if necessary to get the right offer. Would love to be proved wrong

finbow1984 added 22:15 - Aug 20 Just imagine for a second that Edu is the priority and Davis was second in line. So we could only offer 500k for Davis without it effecting our Edu offer. Thats why I think we didnt up the Davis offer. Edu is more important for Ipswich as we are crying out for a center mid that doesnt sit deep! Edu is a proper unit and will be a great signing for this club if we can pull it off. Maybe fans should start getting behind the manager and remember we arent made of money and cant afford everyone under the sun! Would be nice if we could but if Edu is the only signing we make I would be a very happy man!
