Chopra: Town Will Benefit From Shape Shifting
Saturday, 25th Aug 2012 06:00

Ipswich’s ability to switch shape from one game to the next — and even during the 90 minutes — will serve them well this season, according to striker Michael Chopra.

Last season’s £1 million signing from Cardiff said: “You need to have different formations so we can change at different periods of each game and when you are playing against different types of sides.

“I think the manager can do that with the players he has at his disposal. He can chop and change whenever he wants. In the game against Blackburn it was hard for Lee [Martin] and I to get on the ball so we had to try to get down the wings.

“There will be games like that when I don’t get much of the ball and I just have to keep working hard. If the manager brings in a few more players it will add to the competition for places and we will get better as a team.

“We are not being tipped for promotion but it doesn’t matter to us. It’s all about the players, isn’t it? If people want to talk about us going up, that’s fine, but as a group of players we know what we want to achieve.”

Meanwhile, Chopra has spoken for the first time about Jimmy Bullard’s recent departure from Portman Road after the club agreed a deal for the 10 months he had remaining on his two-year deal.

Chopra said: “Jimmy’s Jimmy. Around the dressing room he was great for the lads and I got on well with him.

“You want to be playing with good players and Jimmy is a good player, but it didn’t really work out for him at the club. I wish him all the best for whatever happens to him in the future.”

Seems to have gone very quiet on the Jimmy Bullard front, but we move on.

I think we should also consider 3-5-2 extra centre half and our full backs are wing backs anyway would also like to see JET in the hole behind strikers see hat he can do there.
