Delaney in Exit Talks
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 14:23

TWTD understands that Damien Delaney’s Blues career is set to come to an end before the transfer window closes on Friday evening with the central defender and the club in talks regarding the settlement of his contract.

The 31-year-old has another year left on his contract but would almost certainly be on the periphery at Town if he remained at Portman Road during the season ahead.

Instead, Delaney, signed by Roy Keane from QPR for an initial £750,000 in the summer of 2009, is keen to move on to play regular football elsewhere. Settling his contract before Friday’s deadline would allow him to move as a free agent once the window closes if he doesn't find a new side before then.

The former Cork City, Leicester and Hull man was linked with Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest earlier in the summer.

Delaney’s probable exit means that Paul Jewell is likely to be on the look-out for two centre-halves either before the closure of the window on Thursday or on an emergency loan once Football League clubs are allowed to bring players in on that basis in a week’s time.

Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot was reported to be in talks with the Blues earlier today.

This is great i am 53 and always wanted to play for Town , will bring my boots on saturday so i can warm up and sit on the bench , i will only want travelling expenses so hopefully our CEO cannot mess that up . Of course if i get on and score the winner i will want at least £10000 not sure how much the agent will want ??!! We should get money for Wright was he not contracted to the Youth team , Delaney must be worth £200,000 what the hell is going on ? What a rollercoaster , its fantastic supporting Ipswich !!!

A bit late for the season, but it really looks as though there is a thorough spring cleaning operation going on at PR. We have been told that it will take time to build. I hope it's all going to be worth it. Sorry in a way about DD because he was a guy who always gave his best, but in all honesty, he wasn't the way forward. Same applies to Stevenson. Is the owner willing to finance serious team-building? My guess is we end up with Murphy and some loans further down the line, but I hope that I'm proven wrong. Interesting times at PR, worrying ones too. COYB!

We need new centre backs so we decide to release another play who cost nearly £1m not including 3 years wages, blood pressure is through the roof these last few days!

Right now it feels like to me that this club is an absolute shambles!!

Why oh why does EVERY deal break down time it comes to agreeing personal terms???!!

I rarely come on here and have a moan but what with not even able to agree terms for 2 posh players let alone, sign a Centre back in 24 hours!! Oh dont tell me, we will get a loan signing from a Premier League club, that worked last year didnt it. And the normal practice is you get a replacement in before letting only your 3rd centre back buggar off!

We need back up for Delaney if N'Daw can't play CB, as for the Posh saga I personally think it comes from the Bullard fiasco, once bitten twice shy. 15k a week is a lot for Boyd and considering we've heard noises that he can be lazy that's a gamble. Alot of money grabbing average players out there who only interested in the money rather than playing for the club. With Murphy back on loan and hearing that Taylor has agreed it might be a blessing in disguise.
