Stoke Won't Stand in Higginbotham's Way
Wednesday, 3rd Oct 2012 10:24

Stoke boss Tony Pulis says he won’t stand in Danny Higginbotham’s way if the loanee wants to extend his stay at Portman Road. The 33-year-old centre-half is with Town for an initial month but has said he would be open to a longer term move.

Pulis says Higginbotham has played a big part in the Potters establishing themselves in the Premier League but accepts that it may be time for him to move on: "He's a great lad, a great ambassador for this club and one of the bedrocks it has been built on.

"But I understand his wish to be playing, especially at this stage of his career, so if I can help him I certainly will.

"We should never forget the contribution made by Danny, both on and off the field, and I certainly won't."

Higginbotham, who wasn’t named in Stoke’s 25-man Premier League squad for the first half of the season, has made an important contribution as the Blues have gained two important away points in his first two starts, having made his debut as a late sub in the defeat to Charlton.

Speaking shortly after joining the Blues, the former Manchester United trainee said he’d be interested in staying at Portman Road beyond a month: “We have to see how things go but if the opportunity was there to extend the loan then I’d definitely look at it.”

He has brought some confidence into the team. We need players like Danny right now. A must if we are to continue to move in the right direction

Danny is a big presence on the field and judging by what Pulis has said about him, a top professional off the field. I believe he will prove to be a great palyer for us. Mowbray & Venus made big impacts here and they were older. Sign him up.

I agree - there seems to be some stability now he's come in./ He has played alongside Chambers so there should be an undertstanding there. Must admit my opinion is based only on reports so will be interested to see for myself how he goes on Saturday.

He's just what was needed, a bit of leadership and organisation skills at the back. No harm in a permanent deal if he isn't on big bucks.

Stoke supporting friend of mine said "Much better than the other players you've had on loan from us!"

I think his experience and organisational skills at the back could make all the difference, he could be a top signing for us.

The trouble is even if the loan is extended to 3 months he'll have to go back in December and then other clubs will put in their offers to him. It could be Andrews / Collins all over again.

He was immense last night, the backline looked pleasingly solid (the midfield esp Mr N'Daw played a part in that too), agree that a 2 year deal wouldn't go amiss.

Looks like Danny is getting ready early for Movember! Should be a nice full boddied beast by then looking at that picture. On that 'tache alone I'd sign him up! Must scare the opposition forwards running towards that thing. I shall be growing mine out in honour of Danny!

Havent seen him play yet but by all accounts from those that have he has done well. He is exactly what i think we need though, an experienced head to organise at the back, ala Mowbray.

Just read that Roy Keane may be heading to Blackburn rovers... ...reckon we should make a cheeky £250'000 bid for Jordan Rhodes in January?

We had the Bullard Curly Wig in the club store whilst he was here, now we can all sport a Higgy Tash; I'd pay 50p for that and it may lift the crowd with a laugh if everyone had one.
