Edwards: Danny's a Pain in the Butt!
Thursday, 18th Oct 2012 06:00

Town skipper Carlos Edwards has hailed loanee Danny Higginbotham’s contribution since his recent arrival from Stoke but admitted: “He’s a pain in my butt.”

After the briefest of cameo appearances from the bench in the 2-1 home defeat by Charlton, the experienced defender played the entire 90 minutes in the away draws at Barnsley and Brighton, and then the defeat to Cardiff at Portman Road. Yesterday, manager Paul Jewell stated his intention to try to extend the 33-year-old's spell to three months.

The pair are teaming up for a second time and Edwards said: “I was with Danny at Sunderland and it’s good to have a familiar face alongside me again. It’s good to have someone with his experience.

“He’s a pain in my butt because he shouts at me. Luke Chambers also shouts at me a lot and it’s as if he is my dad the way he tells me to get my finger out.

“But it’s all done in a good, positive way and I don’t see any problem. Even though I’m the captain it doesn’t mean they can’t speak to me.

“Talking is a big part of the game and it’s important that everyone has their say. I am so laid back that I can sleep in water but Danny and Luke are both keeping me on my toes.”

As regards the more recent additions to the squad, midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker, who signed a three-month short-term deal at the weekend, and keeper Stephen Henderson, who became the club’s eighth loanee when he joined from West Ham on Tuesday, he says the duo are establishing themselves in the group.

“The new boys have settled in really well and it’s important to have a strong squad,” said the Trinidadian.

"We all know how tough the Championship as a division is and having competition for places throughout the squad is something that you need.

“Nigel came in a few days ago and you can see in training already what qualities he has and you would think that he had been here ages!

“But all the lads are working hard ready for Saturday’s game against Hull and there’s a good spirit in the camp at the minute, despite our league position.

“Now we need to take that spirit and belief into the matches and start climbing up the table, which we know we are all capable of.”

Well Carlos you need to be shouted at because a lot of the time you are out of position an attacking mid-fielder you certainly are but you will never be a defender.

For those wanting to know how we, the fans are being treated at this club go to the BBC sports website where they are reporting the cost of football and ipswich is the most expensive. Our management has a lot to learn and with the current pricing and manager in charge it will not put bums on seats however LOYAL you are classified to be.

We are in a right old mess and this should be a focal point of discussion at the fortcoming AGM.

Big worry is the fact in 3 months time we will have a small squared again as 5 of these players will be gone and we are back to square one.
If these player get us up the table to dare I say a play off place we will then replace them with Watfrods reserve keeper and what other problem do I have Chopra

WarkyW..: Went to the website, copied the data into a spreadsheet and sorted it on the most expensive column. You were almost right. ITFC were second. Leeds were first. . . Only £7 in it however.

Edwards was excellent at Brighton, I think people should watch him play in his right back role rather than stay with these pre-conceived ideas

I don't think that Carlos actually choses to play at RB. I think that you'll find that PJ decides that.

Yes, he is out of position.

Still our best player.

The latest Town player to have a go at the fans, in today's Star. Apparently, it is NOT the players' job to motivate the fans ; it is the other way round. Get rid.

These are my observations of Carlos:
1. 75% of the time when he gets the ball, he just hoofs it long down the channel.
2. A couple of times a game he gets wide on the overlap and crosses averagely.
3. A couple of times a game he gets caught out of position leading to a half-chance or a goal.

If this makes him a "great" player then God help us. I might as well put my boots on. Actually PJ and Clegg are so incompetent, I'd probably get a 3 month deal on £10k a week. I might pop them an e-mail.

Good attacker but can't understand how the manager hasn't spotted his defensive frailties, all our opponents have.

Edwards is not captain material.

His comments in this report are shocking coming from our so-called skipper. I couldn't care less if he's a nice guy and really laid back or has a great sense of humour.

But I have no idea who to replace him with. To be honest the whole squad is rotten. Bobby Moore wouldn't have been able to captain this lot.

Well you need shouting at Carlos, you are good going foward but too often we lose goals to crosses from your man!! ok the 2 against Cardiff should have been taken by Loach but both where crosses coming in too easily.
