Loach Taken Out of Firing Line Friday, 19th Oct 2012 06:04 Town boss Paul Jewell says keeper Scott Loach has been taken out of the firing line following a drop in form. The Blues manager signed Stephen Henderson on a three-month loan from West Ham earlier this week and the Irishman is set to make his Town debut at Hull on Saturday.
Jewell says even before the errors in the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff a fortnight ago, the summer signing from Watford had been under par: “I think Scott’s lost a little bit of confidence, not just against Cardiff, I think one or two goals have gone in and he’s not been at his best.
"So we just want to take him out of the firing line for a bit. He’ll come back strongly I’m sure.”
He says keepers should expect the same treatment as outfield players if their performances aren’t up to scratch: “Goalkeepers like to think they’re different to anybody else, but they’re not.
“If people are having a bad time or are not playing well, they get left out. Goalkeepers are no different.
“I don’t see the big deal in it. Scott’s a young lad, he’s had ups and downs before. He’s got to take it on the chin like everybody else.
“I haven’t had a chat with him, but I think he knows that he hasn’t been at his best lately and we’ve brought somebody else in to push him along.
“Equally, anyone who comes in, if they don’t do well, their place will come under scrutiny. No one’s guaranteed a place, whether that’s a loan player or a player that is permanent.”
Regarding Henderson, Jewell says widespread reports in January which claimed that the former Pompey man had turned down personal terms with Town after the clubs agreed a deadline day fee, were incorrect: “We made an offer for three players at Portsmouth and it was rejected.
“I spoke to the lad Joel Ward, I had him here, but other than that we never got to speak to Jason Pearce or Stephen Henderson.”

I can't believe he's done this interview before he's told Scott Loach! What an absolute muppet, Roy Keane probably had better man management skills and that's saying something!! If someone is having a hard time you talk to them and try and give them confidence not drop them without telling them and sign someone else!

I've watched him a number of times this season and he is a good shot stopper (and occasionally - the penalty save - a modern day Gordon Banks). His kicking/distribution is far better than ALB's, as is his communication. However he seems incapable of taking command and coming out of his six yard box to deal with balls over the top or in behind the defence. This ultimately leaves the defenders, running back towards their own goal, under pressure. Several games this season a defender has been looking for him to come out and clear/or collect the ball and he stays in his goal and we concede; corners, throw-ins and possession unnecessarily. In my opinion he should be dropped and I would prefer that he is not replaced by ALB. As for the excuses to bash Jewell; 'You can't drop him he's a town fan' - who cares I want an in-form goalkeeper 'He should have spoken to Scott not the media' - Loach is a grown man who knows his form isn't good enough and besides the coaching staff will have spoken to Loach. P.S. you can stick your likes and dislikes up your arsenal what a pathetic addition to TWTD. I am a grown man, not some angst ridden teenager who wants their friends to like their latest post on facebook.

Maybe PJ is right to leave Loach out, I haven't been to enough games this season to form an informed opinion on that subject. What I absolutely do know enough to make an informed opinion of, is that If one of the men in your charge be it business or football (They're both business anyway btw), is low on confidence and is under performing, as his manager it is YOUR responsibility to deal with it. Now that may be in the form of, performance management, disciplinary procedure or arm around the shoulder. What you DO NOT do is talk behind his back in public. If you PJ, worked in any organisation I've ever worked for you would have been sacked long ago. You are utterly useless and have had far too long to prove that you just are not up to the job, Where's your dignity man? leave before the last shred disintigrates.

This just gets worse, Cresswell has had lots of dodgy games, but it appears his is one of the first names on the team sheet. Yes loach did make mistakes but had Cressie done his job properly on both those occasions they may not have lead to goals. DOUBLE STANDARDS. Hate all the bull and dishonesty surrounding this club right now, only honesty and hard work will see us through this. Just checked back to make sure i am not misquoting but severeal news quotes state, fees were agreed for Henderson and brokedown over personal terms, who the hell is telling the truth? I for one believe Loach has the ability, just needs to be taught some better decision making and it appears communication skills . Losing more faith daily now, and i have been one of those urging patience.

Fantastic loan signing! Loach has been very poor of late. First thing PJ has done right at this club.

the guy might have lost a bit of confidence, but that might be because his manager is publicly slating him in post-match interviews and pre-match interviews!!! Poor man-management! I suppose it's lucky we loaned in Henderson because ALB is shocking, everytime the ball goes anywhere near our box you feel he will make a mistake!!

any chance captain clegg could learn from his "manager"and take Jewell out of the firing line?......maybe loan him out to Copelston under 12's or something?

PJ really should of spoken to Scott first about his plans but tthis will give Scott a chance to watch Henderson in goal and see what he does right and what he does wrong and learn from him, Henderson is a temp so Scott can rest assured that he will be back between the sticks a better player after Henderson leaves.

Seriously, some of you need to take a nap. Scott Loach is not a toddler. He doesn't need a plush toy or a sippy cup with warm milk. And he shouldn't need things explained to him with an arm around his shoulder. He needs a return to form- and quickly. If PJ talking about the situation destroys him, like some of you obviously think it will, then he should be playing with the other small children with his pink, fluffy slippers on.

Hang on you Jewell bashers and man management experts! Couldn't PJ have told Scott briefly he was not starting at Hull, and indicated he'd have a chat with him about it later?

He is such a tit, why talk to the media first and too be fair to Loach i would say there are worse players in the team. Also I wouldn't mind but He only bought him in the summer. Have patience loach I believe that your the right man!

Have to say I agree with Jewell getting Henderson,he has far mor ability than Loach and look at the ammount og goals Loach has let in after all his bleeting to the press about donating part of his clean sheet bouns to charity, his confidence is shattered and he was a poor signing in the first place,he is no better than ALB.Having said all that JEWELL OUT and take Loach and Chopra with you

while i totally agree that pj is totally wrong to have dealt with this in the way he has, i cant believe there are still people saying that loach has only had 1 poor game. yes, hes made some good saves but hes been totally unconvincing from the word go. as pj says, there have beena couple of goals in other games he should have done better with, he fails to command his area, and some of his distribution is also poor to add tothat, so i believe it was the right thing to do to bring in a replacement. but of course he should have spoken to loach to explain what & why he was doing so. like others have already said too, i believe we should have gone the extra mile to get a better keeper in the 1st place as i was never convinced signing loach was the right decision neway. & before ne1 says it, its of no consequence that he supports the town, if he not good enough. however, i do hope in time that he improves so that we have a top keeper to call on in the future

Paul Jewell only signed a 2 year contract so that means he's working for his renewal sooner than everyone thinks.. Hopefully he under achieves before the new window and we can lose this a-hole for a new manager to address and make a few changes in the jan window!

Why if Loach has to be dropped, hasn't cresswell aswell? Now I'm not saying i want cressy benched but its another flaw in the clowns rationalising. Win, Lose or Draw, whoever plays CLOWN OUT!!!

He's handled it badly granted, however, Watford fans did warn us about Loach and I'm now taking notice...but if we were scoring goals these errors wouldn't be such issues. Loach was a panic buy imo, we won't pay the extra needed to secure the best so once more we're no further forward regarding a solid first choice keeper.. But listen, all keepers a prone to errors which usually result in goals conceded...let's get banging them in at the other end PLEASE!!

Whilst I accept that Loach was not on top of his game against Cardiff this could apply to many others. This is poor man management and a sure way of destroying his confidence. Fair enough if we had signed Begovic or somebody with pedigree then Loach would probably accept the rationale behind the decision but being replaced by a kid.. not disrepect to him but unproven. Shambles too many loanees

People are forgetting Loach was a number 2 at Watford. No wonder we've bought in a premiership quality keeper

Man management skills non existent, tactics ? - absolutely clueless, predictions and statements ? - hot air at best, and it goes on ...... All Goalkeeper's make mistakes i.e HART - and he wasn't crucified for it, in an International Match. Therein lies the difference in Managers. Just go Jewell - you haven't a clue.

blues1 - just a reminder that these 'player failures' are ALL Jewell's signings - the pathetic amongst you cannot blame Keane any longer. Bet some are real sad about that, and will still try to.
