Jewell Says Goodbyes
Thursday, 25th Oct 2012 14:22

Departing Blues boss Paul Jewell said his goodbyes at Portman Road this morning, still frustrated that things didn’t work out for him at Town. The Liverpudlian’s time as manager of the Blues was ended by mutual consent on Wednesday.

Speaking in a lengthy interview with Ipswich Player, he said: “I’m gutted it hasn’t worked out and even now looking around the place, it’s so frustrating that it hasn’t worked out.

“I could not have given any more because I was desperate to see Portman Road packed and the club being successful and it’s the right decision for me to leave.”

He says he’s given Town a glowing reference to prospective successors: “I had a few managers on the phone to me yesterday and I told them don’t hesitate as the job is now available because it’s a great football club and I really hope the club goes on to great things because it deserves it.

“Ipswich is also in very good hands with the owner. Marcus doesn’t interfere in any decisions football-wise and is right up there with the best chairmen I have worked with — and I have worked with some really good ones.

“I know there might be some people out there knocking him but sometimes people need to be careful what they wish for. He’s 100 per cent committed to the club and wants success for Ipswich as much as anyone.”

Good luck PJ for the future, shame it did not work, honourable to the end, as for bluey 123, you wanted the club you supposedly support lose games so Jewell would leave, well you got your wish, I hope your happy. I as many on here think your an embarrassment to call yourself an Ipswich fan.

Lotta love for Paul on here and rightly so. It just goes to show that most fans know that you gave your best. Totally different than when Keano left. Nice interview too, as honest as always. All the best for the future.

whilst mr jewell has always been a likeable bloke for his humour and dignified way despite many a hiding,i think this probably bought him a bit of time from us town fans so in effect its had a negative- for us, as in reality many other clubs fans would have hounded him out months ago, thus probably preventing another wasted season /money /dissapointment through the turnstiles.

Hate to see all the back seat drivers thanking PJ and then going on to say that he was no good.

When things don't work out it is rarely down to one factor, and is normally a combination of many things, not least a bit of luck. Most of the top managers have entries on their CV's that they would like to forget about.

He was a good bloke, who tried his best. It didn't work out but that doen't mean to say he was a bad manager. Time will tell.

I have had many jobs, ranging across many industries and i always have given 110%, but a couple have not worked out, in fact a couple went pear shaped. I am so glad, that whilst licking my wounded pride i havent had to face and or hear abusive comments and apparent hatred for trying and failing .

You know guys and gals, having read some of the posts on here this evening i have to admit many of you have made me feel proud to be blue again( You know the one , where you tap your chest with a closed fist).

I havent seen the interveiw, but sounds very emotional. i liked him and wanted it to work out, it hasnt and he moves on with a lot of dignity. class act of decency.

I finish this post with a question for those who have felt the need to slate Jewell in this post, The question is why, were you bullies at school? Show some respect, you have your wish. I wonder how many games the new manager gets b4 start the slagging off begins.

A new era, lets try to look forward, i know its tough and i agree with someone who posted about needing a subscription to watch the interveiw, just not great PR is it? They need to give a bit of the club back to the supporters. Hard work required all-round.....COYB

Well done Mr J. Very dignified, and in keeping with the spirit of ITFC....a gentleman's club....although some of the posters on here seem to forget the traditions set down by the Cobbolds.....red wine anyone?

Im not being funny but i dont understand why so many people are kissing up to him. He should have walked weeks ago but he selfishly held on for his own sake.
We could have lost vital points because he stayed. Will you all be kissing up to him at the end of the season if we go down by a few points?
Dont get me wrong i wish him well but im not gona thank him for outstaying his welcome

Hardly one comment on here slagging him off as a person. Sound bloke.

Rubbish manager though. Please stop all this 'thanks very much' guff. Thanks very much for what - taking us to within one place of L1? Have you been enjoying this/last season? Am I missing something? Do you lot actually watch matches?

Pete Morris... its polite to thank someone who gives their best, thats all people are saying. No one is saying he is a great manager or they enjoy our position....coyb

s.hame it didnt work out very likeable man most of the players should be ashamed of themselves as should bluey123 kicking the man when he is down. dont envy the next bloke with some of the so called fans that are on here.

No Diss-respect, but if someone giving their best results in the 'football' I've been watching recently (most of it straight out of the ‘Keano' School of Tactics manual), and you want to heap on the thanks, then I really am missing something.
Sort it out Evans.

Absolutely gutted it didnt work out for pj as seems a thoroughly decent guy.

I would love to see him back in the media and soccer saturday soon (cant be no worse the Phil Thompson!) and join all the quality fans on here in wishing the very best in the future.

Byee PJ thanks for the effort, as said nice fella but nice guys rarely come first. I think some players certainly let him down, we all know their names (some still here others not). All the best on what you get up to next.

Know he tested my patience to breaking point over the last few weeks but I wish him well and hope he finds success elsewhere.

so none of you are bothered that he selfishly stayed on for at least a month too long which could result in us getting relegated?
He knew he couldnt turn it around but refused to do the decent thing.
Nice of him

As many may know I was pro PJ, almost until the very end, the 6-0 defeat was what chnaged my mind.
I really wished it had work out for him but sadly wasn't to be.
Good luck for the future PJ.

WE are bottom and paul Jewell has gone, points wise he left us with very little, but on a lighter note he left us with some cracking one liners, There was "JET THE PANELBEATER" or the" EVERYONE TO A MAN SAW IT" regarding the lineswoman who got an offside decision wrong, that made me laugh. What others are there?
