Hutchings Not Thinking Beyond Saturday
Thursday, 25th Oct 2012 17:46

Caretaker-boss Chris Hutchings says he’s not thinking about being in charge beyond Saturday’s game at home to Sheffield Wednesday, but admits that Town is a “fantastic club” where anyone in football would want to work.

The former full-back says he was asked to take control of the squad after Paul Jewell’s departure but wouldn’t be drawn on whether he would be applying for the job full-time: “I spoke to the chairman [Simon Clegg] and he said to me that I want you to take charge of team matters on Saturday and then we’ll just take things from there.

“So, that’s all I’m going to say on the matter because the most important thing that I’m focused on is the team for Saturday.

“It’s not about any individual or who would like it, who would want it. There’ll be speculation, it’ll be rife, same as it is at Blackburn, same as at Burnley, same as at Hartlepool.

“It’s about Saturday, about us and the fans and getting a result for them and working hard for it, and showing a passion and commitment for this football club.”

He admitted, however, that staying at Town in some capacity is very attractive: “This is a fantastic club. If you’re in football, who wouldn’t want to work at a club like this? We all want to work at this football club. It’s a great place to work.”

Exiting boss Jewell would love Hutchings to succeed him, as he did at Bradford and Wigan, although without much success: “I hope we win Saturday and I'd like Chris to get the job.

“Whether Marcus is going to bring somebody in is out of my remit. Whether it's Hutch or somebody else - it's a great job."

No thanks. Surely he's got to take a fair share of the blame for our current position in the table and the issues on the pitch.

Hutchings is only worsened by Megson! As a team Jewell and Hutchings failed so both should go!

Enjoy your one game in charge Hutch and I hope it's a victory. But I can't see you being the long term answer.

No Jewell please do not mention Hutchings to get the job!! I know it's only odds but I feel so worried that Gary Megson is 4th favourite for the job...please no.

I wish him luck ,a genuine man without any flash ,unlike alot of the managers/coaches with big egos. Hes honest, thats a good thing ,same as Jewel . They have done their best, We though need a root to branch change at the club.

I remember once seeing Megson at a petrol station filling up his car. First thought was, if i were a car i wouldnt let him touch me. Who wants a ginger car lol

Appointing megson would turn even more fans away, can't seriously consider him! If appointed I will be first one starting the protests!

Clegg said Hutchings was only here for 1 or 2 games so no worries there!

And then there's the "Moneyball" approach; have a look at the link and note who comes out well if the club is to be driven by economics in future - and he's not too many miles from Ipswich at the moment either

Fadedblue very interesting. Would be a surprise choice, but who knows, Has an excellent record in the lower leagues. Can't do any worse and may do a lot better!
