Quartet Linked With Blackpool Boss
Saturday, 27th Oct 2012 23:13

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway is reported to be interesting Town and the various other Championship clubs currently looking for new bosses.

The Blues and Crystal Palace — who are also understood to be interested in another candidate for the Town job Mick McCarthy - are said to have joined the likes of Burnley and Blackburn in targeting the 49-year-old.

The Seasiders would apparently want around £500,000 if any of the clubs firm up their apparent interest in the former Bristol Rovers, QPR, Plymouth and Leicester manager.

Blackpool, who Holloway led into the Premier League via the play-offs in 2009/10, are currently 12th in the Championship having lost last season’s play-off final to West Ham.

Holloway, who hasn’t always enjoyed an entirely harmonious relationship with chairman Karl Oyston, is on a one-year rolling contract at Bloomfield Road.

Earlier this week, Town chief executive Simon Clegg didn't rule out the Blues moving for a manager currently with a club, although we understand the Blues are yet to approach the Seasiders.

Meanwhile, Kevin Bond, one of Harry Redknapp’s faithful lieutenants at his various clubs, was in the Portman Road directors’ box today.

As reported earlier in the week, we understand Bond was on Town’s list of potential successors to Paul Jewell but is expected to follow the former Spurs boss to his next club, QPR having been linked.

Redknapp is believed to be one of the footballing figures advising Marcus Evans and Bond may also be part of the Blues' owner's coterie.

I wouldn't mind an ex canary, if they did a good job however KB is a smug twtd with no track record of success himself.

Mick McCarthy or Owen Coyle would be very good, Ian Holloway would be sensational but in Ian's case I just can't see it especially when he has players like Tom Ince and Matt Phillips.

Jewell was Redknapp's suggestion. Fail. Why are we still listening? And in any case Bond is untested as a manager. That's not even taking into account he's an ex Nodge player and the son of an ex Nodge manager.

I'd love it, but why would he come here? I know he's always spoken well of us and clearly respects us hugely as a club, but I don't think that's enough.

McCarthy or Coyle I think.

Guess we will be connected to anyone who may be looking for championship management work at the moment, I am concerned that with so many opportunities in the championship at the moment, if we don't identity and appoint our man soon, we will be left with one of the also availables. We need a strong character, and we need him no later than Tuesday. Come on Clegg, earn your money NOW.

All things considered, Holloway would be an excellent and galvanising appointment. Decent football and tactical nous are something we've not had for 4 years so bring it on if at all feasible. This would be a surprising and uplifting development if it ever happens (which I very much doubt).

He may come, We are a bigger club than Blackpool and maybe he feels he has taken them as far as he could having took them up to the premierleague and losing in the play off final last season. Blackpool dont seem to have huge money and Evans would trust Holloway with his money and Holloway would spend it wisely. Just look at the signings of Ince and Matt Phillips. A free transfer and £350,000. Type of character who would relish this kind of challenge as well. My number one choice and if he comes and ends up keeping us in the League then the £500,000 in compensation would hardly be relevant.

Possibly the only manager that 99% of fans wouldn't mind having. Would love to see him here, but like everyone else says... why would he leave what he's got to come here?!

Took a club to League 1, Clegg likes that sort of thing.

I'd like no one more than Holloway but i just can't see why he'd leave promotion contenders for a relegation scrap. You can bet your life that he wouldn't stand for over paid idiots like Chopra running their mouth on twitter too!

I've been thinking about who I seriously want to come in for a week now and have finally come to a decision, due to the climate the club is in we definitely do need a wise old head that's been in this situation before but I also want the heart of this club back! So my choice is Curbishley with holland as assistant! Can you imagine in 3 or 4 years time Holland developing into a really good manager and being ours!!!!!!!

I understand completely what you mean but isn't that part of taking on a new job, look at what Graham Westley has done at Preston, getting rid of those who didn't want to be there and bringing in an influx of players. Look at Michael Appleton at Pompey having to sign players on one month deals all the time not knowing the future of the club. Our situations is more management, picknig the right players in a suitable formation, we're not in huge debt, Holloway wouldn't let issues like Chopra's stop him being successfull, he would deal with it accordingly.
