McCarthy Set for £1m Bonus if Town Stay Up
Wednesday, 31st Oct 2012 08:58

Incoming Blues boss Mick McCarthy is understood to be set to earn £1 million-a-year at Town, plus another £1 million bonus if he keeps the Blues in the Championship this season. The Blues currently sit bottom of the division, five points from safety having failed to win in their last 12 matches.

As reported yesterday, McCarthy, his Wolves assistant Terry Connor and ex-Blues skipper Matt Holland are set to be confirmed as the new Town managerial team before the weekend.

A press conference to unveil the new team appears likely to take place on Thursday, although nothing has yet been officially announced.

What's a million or two nowadays anyway?
£1,000,000 /17,738 = £56.38 / 23 = £2.45 per home game. Would you pay that much extra if it guaranteed survival?
Now come to think of it .......

Well things gone quiet on hear.'Arry yesterday said he hadn't been approached.Bluey 123 reckon Matt wont be joining.Bonuses being mentioned and MM hasn't even joined us yet, what an exciting time.
Always speculation when change of Manager made and most are usually positive 75% in this case.
I have seen many managers come and go since Sir Alf left, and the most important factor is league position which doesnt lie.It says that PJ really messed things up and the new man, whoever it is,will have hell of a task on his hands.Bill(Sgt Major)McGarry did it quite quickly so lets hope MM or whoever can as well.
No matter he is not my favorite choice, its ME's that matter, and like I always do will back manager and team initially;but not blindly as some did latterly with PJ,although the new man deserves more time because of the state the club is in.
Lets hope he is given more backing in transfer market than Jewell was latterly and the Major doesnt bang on about the new rules all the time.

I'm not sure he even needs finaincial incentives does he? Surely just the thought of doing better than the dark lord will spur him on!

If there is any truth in the figures being mentioned now for McCarthy's remuneration, then I repeat my view. This decsion reflects utter PANIC and knee jerk response decision making by ME anf SC.

You bet McCarthy is available ! You bet he is smiling ! Yuo bet he can accept ITFC whilst rejecting Bolton & Forest. £2 million in the bank by the end of the season. Top paid manager in the Championship.

He will keep us up. ME will breathe asign of relief as he will still be in the 2nd tier of football. Come season 2013/14, let us see what happens.

MM was in my top 3 for the appointment. But I think we are paying way over the odds for him

Can't we put Robert Fleck's managerial experience with Diss Town to use and bring him in instead?

Well he has to earn it , its no giveaway, he is taking on a shambolic group of players, some we are led to believe dont care and dont try , and others are only loan players, its a bit like ''The Dirty Dozen ''.and got to get them playing as a team worthy wearing ITFC shirt , its not going to happen over night.Good luck to him ,if he achieves it ,ill be happy COYB

HOW COME WE ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE NEW MANAGER GOING TO EARN INCLUDING BONUSES BEFORE HE HAS BEEN GIVEN THE JOB
I READ IN THE DAILY STAR TODAY HARRY REDKNAPP WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THE JOB BUT NOBODY HAS SPOKEN TO HIM
AND ON SKYSPORTS NEWS TODAY THEY SAY MATT HOLLAND WONT BE INVOLVED AT ALL
WHAT GOING ON DO ANYBODY KNOW

It matters not what he is earning, the fact is we have a new management team in place, i welcome the arrival of Terry Connor as his right hand man, and in bringing Matty Holland in we have someone which a connection with the club and a passion to match. As has been identified earlier in the thread £1m is very low in terms of the loss should we go down.

I think Harry know more about the job than he's letting on "" and the betting on mick was 1/20 this morning but now is 1/7 with stanjames .. Seems things not as they should be !!!!

Where would this story have come from? There is no way ITFC would have released the figures offered to an incoming manager. Absolute rubbish Phil/Gav. Surprised at TWTD banging out this story, that kind of tosh comes from the local rags.

bluesman, what you on about? "if clegg spent half this on players?" clegg doesnt spend any money on anything. its evans who spends the money.& decides how much to spend too. bluey123/ so where you hear no m. holland when every report states he will be part of the set up?

At the moment whether anyone believes these stories or not the fact remains we still actually dont have a manager. So whilst some are welcoming him and others are sounding of about millions being paid out etc - there isn't one tread of evidence from ITFC officially that he has the job. Its all pure conjecture until someone signs

Some of our players must be shaking in their boots after reading big mick is coming in.
Go in there and sort them mick and get rid of the over paid non tryers and bring in players who want to play and care about the club not just the money they earn.
build us a team to be proud of and get us back where we belong in the premier league and you belong .
Mr McCarthy is premier league manager and we will be very lucky to have him.
All you people knocking him will be eating your words when he has made us great again lets get behind him and fill the stands again and cheer the blues on to greatness again.
COME ON YOU BLUES.
BIG MICKS BLUE AND WHITE ARMY.

There are some very good points made to this story. Some people (and I include myself here) have posted comments, when, in fact, MM's appointment hasn't been officially announced.

Wage negoatiations and bonuses are a very personal thing. I don't believe MM would brag to the press how much he was getting and I would hope the club would not release them unless they need to for legal reasons, stcok markets, ets. So where has this story come from.

Over to you Phil and Gav. Do you think it would be a good idea to put a note at the bottom of each news item to say where the info came from? No need to name names, but something like 'Article from sources within the club' 'Taken from press release' 'Taken from recorded interview or 'Copied from article in gutter press'.

It would help some of the more thoughtful posters to be able to give some reflection on whether the sorce is reliable or not.

I am not being critical of anyone at TWTD in anyway. You do a fantastic job. One that I couldn't do. It is just an open question. Any comments?

Urchin, you're right nothing confirmed as yet but assuming bookies etc are right and he comes, only 11 games ago these same players were doing ok- praised for a draw with Blackburn & ending dire record away to Watford- the only difference since then must be attitude, if anything the squad is now stronger with extra bodies in (could that have demoralised some of the permanent squad?- ok no excuse but possible additional factor, alongwith whatever else caused them to get fed up of PJ) so I can't see why need for 'total rebuild.' Get rid of any who aren't interested (again do we know there are any such now that PJ gone?) and most loanees and we can start climbing. My point is I don't see need for bonus to stay up- we can defintely do it, IMO. Look at P/boro, a month ago they were being labelled certs to go down...a month is a long time in football.

Mick Mills or George Burley would have done it for a fraction of that plus do a better job than McCarthy because thier blood runs Ipswich Blue and both care where for McCarthy it's just another job.

wickedblue. what a ridiculous statement/ just because their blood runs blue doesnt guarantee theyd do a better job anymore than signing a player who supports the team means theyre better than we already got.for me & it seems most fans on here, if it is mccarthy. feel hes exactly what this club needs right now. even if he not your choice i hope youll get behind him, as all fans must. in fact we all need to get behind everyone at the club, & stop whinging. this must be a new beginning. bergholtblue, i think youll find this is a story copied from the national press(the mail, the sun both printed it).

Nice work if you can get it. I don't think the bonus would be beyond anyone at this stage if it really is only non-relegation.

I think when you weigh up the financial losses relegation to league one compared to £2M it could turn out to be a bargain.

Whilst were on the subject of money, on the star website their reporting that they spoke to Holloway and havent managed to agree compensation with Blackpool for the grand amount of £600K so it seems the club have made their minds up that they prefer McCarthy to Holloway.

I still don't get it why we should give MM a £1 Million bonus on top of the yearly wage if we survive, c,mon folks it's not that much to ask for us to end up 20th even with some of the urchins we have in the squad. Even with his salary you'd expect him and his staff to give 100% effort to get Town as far up the league as possible but why throw in a bonus, it doesn't make sense, can't help thinking yet again money talks!
interesting I read about Redknapp not being even approached by the club even though he's almost a sure banker to go to either Southampton or QPR, it strikes me that ME had McCarthy lined up for the job pretty early, who have we officially interviewed to now - the answer is hardly anybody, did we interview Shearer (wasn't he abroad), did we interview Curbishley?

Id rather see us rewarding the manager with an incentive like this than bailing out our players who have gambling problems and cant control their debt

suffolkpunchdrunk added 22:39 - Oct 31
The only incentive he should need is to do better than his old mate Roy Keane.

If he were to get this bonus perhaps he should offer to buy a pie and a pint for every Town supporter at the first home game of next season!
