Luongo's Loan Cut Short Friday, 9th Nov 2012 14:47 Town and Spurs have agreed to terminate midfielder Massimo Luongo's season-long loan with the Blues. The 20-year-old has been out of the first team picture at Portman Road in recent games with the Blues only able name five of their six domestic loanees in a matchday 18.
Boss Mick McCarthy said: “Massimo has gone back. He's a good footballer, but you'd expect that coming from Tottenham, but I need a different type of player.
"He's not been playing games and Tottenham said that if he's not playing football here, then they will take him back. We wish Mass well."
The Australian made eight starts and three sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.
Meanwhile, Richie Wellens is set to play the final game of his loan spell against Burnley tomorrow with no agreement yet in place regarding an extension with the Blues facing his parent club Leicester next week, a match he wouldn't be able to play in.

Good. One down 7 to go. Nothing against Luongo, but we had our own young inexperienced players and really didn't need to bring another clubs player in to progress their career. The guy did at least try and clearly has skill - but not right for this current situation. Best wishes to him though.

Coming on loan from spurs i got excited about this guy and i suppose he will get in the spurs side now and we will wish we still had him. I am reading most people think McCarthy is the right man for the town job now does this mean you will all come back and support them again if so i will see you at the game on saturday

fifeblue - good philosophy - but not at all possible right now, after sticking with Jewell for too long unfortunately. Far, far too many young players (potential club assets) allowed to leave the Club over recent seasons. Players we could have called our own, if only they had been assessed properly, and offered decent, or better still, non derisory insulting contracts. We could have had the nucleus of a Club - for our current man to do something with. Welcome to the 'hill climb' Mick - it's certainly well steep now - but if you don't get fed up first, you'll do it - given time, and backing (dare I say doubtful) - I certainly hope it will be there for you.

A bit annoyed by this, we were all ravng about him pre-season and he started the season reasonably well bar one mistake against Charlton and he was thrown out. In my opinion he is going back because he is not the type of player McCarthy likes. That isnt a criticism of McCarthy but If we had a manager like Karl Robinson, gus poyet I could see Luongo being the catalyst to good play. I think putting Hyam and Luongo together in front of N'Daw would work well in a 4-3-3 formation, all three would work there socks off and there is a good mix. Mick want solid graft and experienced players to get out of this mess, so players like Luongo will inevitably suffer, its not to do with developing someone else because for me because Luongo has potential to make a serious impact much more so than someone like Carson who is our own.

Yeah ship him out, he's the only player we had who can trap a ball. Bring in some more hoofers and stoppers. That should bring the crowds back.

This takes me back to some comments posted on here. "Was he actually doing the job he was brought in to do by Jewell". His comments of "I think I have a bit more in my locker than the manager realises", begs to ask that question. Brought in as a defensive holding midfielder, he didn't seem to be playing that way in the games I watched. If he wouldn't follow the game plan, then perhaps that's why he has gone back. Obviously a bright and talented player for the future. However, Jewell's knack of bringing in the 'wrong' type of player is I believe why we are at rock bottom. We the fans could all see it, surely the players knew the type of players needed also. Not making excuses for the poor team play, but asking players to play out of their slots has probably resulted in poor performances and little effort. Do that for long enough and it becomes a habit. Square pegs in round holes can work for awhile to get you out of the mire as covering play, but ultimatly proves costly if those concerned hate the role they are being asked to do, or are not capable enough to do it. Heads up for tomorrow, lets give some noise for the tractor boys.

Looks to be a really good player but agree with MM that we need fighters rather than footballers but wish the lad all the best and have a hunch we will see more of him in the future.

AbujaBlue: "Great shame, he was very talented and level-headed for his age. Best of luck at Spurs and will be watching his career with interest." A perfect summary. During his time with us Massimo was always a credit to himself, to ITFC, and to Tottenham.

Yes he's a good player, but I am mystified by some of the comments and views about Hyam. He treats the ball like a hot potato, and although his role is not going to bring him lots of goals, he's not got a goal threat at all. As I say, good player, but not worthy of some of the gushing comments here and clamouring for him.

A big mistake letting LUONG0 leave you should got rid of henderson after what he said. Most of the town fans wont like him now so send him back to his beloved hammers where he cant even get on the bench and give the gloves back to loach who wants to play for us. LUONGO was a good player . Big mistake town.
