Striker DJ Campbell says his winning goal against Burnley on Saturday was one of the most significant he has ever netted. The on-loan QPR man made it 2-1 to the Blues in the 87th minute to win Town their first home league game since March at the 11th attempt.

He said: “That has to go down as one of the most important goals of my whole career. Apart from being a key goal in terms of the club’s position, in terms of quality it was also one of the sweetest I have scored for a long, long time.

“When the ball came over from Carlos Edwards on the right it looked perfect for me to head. But I suddenly changed my mind and it dropped beautifully on to my right foot and I was able to cushion it past the keeper.”

Campbell, who is 31 today, says it was a gritty rather than silky performance: “We had to fight and battle sometimes. It wasn’t pretty but these are difficult times for the club and this win was Manna from heaven for us all.”

In terms of his longer-term future, he says he’s not sure what will happen: “I’ve got four goals in seven games here now so you have to say I’m not doing too badly.

“I like Ipswich but my loan is up in January and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens then.

“It will be up to what the people at QPR decide they want to do and whether Ipswich want to keep me on or not.

“The manager has been stressing how important it is that we become a team that is hard to beat and that’s what we were today because we never gave up.”

Meanwhile, Burnley striker Sam Vokes claimed the Clarets’ goal despite the ball appearing to go in off Blues defender Danny Higginbotham: “Junior Stanislas has put in a marvellous cross and I just got a nick on it, so I’m taking that as my first goal."

Vokes felt Daryl Murphy’s opener for Town oughtn’t to have counted: “Everyone was unhappy with the goal. As a striker I feel sometimes goalkeepers are protected but this time it was definitely a foul.”

As for the goal it's laughable I've watched it over again and the keeper comes out and walks straight into Murphy who was clearly standing his ground.

bluelady added 09:17 - Nov 12 bluefeast totally agree, its the kind of player Chopra was last season to be honest, we were always say how hard he was working on and off the ball and in his defence he didnt get the service as a lone striker so was never going to bag a hatful. However i also read on here at the weekend someone saying that Cambell was a good poacher but brough little else, i have to totally disagree he was one of the busiest players saturday by no means a lazy striker waiting for the ball at his feet.

roytheboy added 10:15 - Nov 12 Murphy's goal was never a foul in a million years, I have played the video many times, the keeper can clearly be seen running into Daryl's back, he then fell backwards simply because he was not strong enough to get away with what would, in my opinion, have been a foul against Daryl, thank goodness that the linesman and Referee did their job correctly.

Regarding Murphs header, not a foul by any stretch of the imagination and it shows how strong Murph is because that keeper simply bounced off him. Wonder, if Murph hadn't have scored, whether, or not, the ref would have awarded a penalty because it would definitely have been a foul. Food for thought anyway. Stop whinging Vokes. COYB

Lets hope it rubs off on others in the squad. If he continues like that, then sign him up. Never stopped workign and making runs, was a thorn in Burnley's side all game. As for the alleged foul, a similar thing happened in the first half, Burnley's defender crashes into their own keeper and they want and get a Free kick! Murphy didn't touch him then either. Thankfully the linesman saw it correctly in the 2nd half.

Strikes added 13:21 - Nov 12 Sign him up! On first look from the SBR Lower I thought Grant might have been fouled by Murphy and, had I been the ref, would have disallowed it. However watching the replay it's obvious that Grant runs into the back of Murphy then goes to ground. Correct decision to award the goaland proof why I shouldn't be a ref.
