Orr Keen on Permanent Switch
Wednesday, 14th Nov 2012 12:15

New signing Bradley Orr says his loan move to the Blues from Blackburn is very much with a view to a permanent switch if all goes well. The 30-year-old’s loan means he will be at Portman Road at least until January 26th.

Speaking in an interview with Ipswich Player, Orr says he has previously been close to playing for Mick McCarthy: “The manager has a proven track record at this level and the one above and is a massive factor in me coming to Ipswich.

“I have spoken to him in the past when there was a possibility that I could have signed for him. It didn't work out then but I’m delighted it has this time.

“Having spoken to the manager a couple of times recently and knowing what Ipswich is all about anyway, it was an easy decision to make. I didn’t need to speak to anyone else in the game. I just jumped in my car and came down here!

“I know the club is at the wrong end of the table but that doesn’t bother me. With the manager here, I think it’s exciting times for Ipswich and I’m glad to be part of it.”

In terms of the longer term, the right-back, whose Blackburn contract is up in the summer of 2014, added: “Firstly I want to do well for Ipswich. If that happens, then I might get the chance to extend that stay. If it doesn't, I will be sent back to Blackburn.

“We have talked about me staying. That’s the plan and I’d certainly be interested in a permanent move.

“If the manager and the powers that be want that to happen, I could be here longer than the loan date but it will be down to how well I do here and how much I can help the club. My priority is doing as well as I can for Ipswich Town.”

Having fallen out of favour at Ewood Park since Henning Berg took over as boss, he says he felt he needed to move on: “There were a few things going on in the upper echelons of the club at Blackburn and I wanted to get out on loan.

“Once I heard of Ipswich’s interest I was really keen to come down here. Thankfully we’ve managed to get something sorted and I’m absolutely delighted to be here.

“I know Ipswich well from playing here a number of times in the past and I know that the club is steeped in history. It’s a big club and it’s an honour to be here.”

For the first time in nearly two and a half years, we have a manager who can spot within 5 mins of arriving that right back isn't a position to stick someone who is a winger. Whilst Hewitt may be the future, it astounds me that we have not played with a recognised right back for so long, shipped in goals for fun, and neither Keane nor Jewell thought having someone with defensive nous in that position might help.

The crossfield ball over Edwards' head into acres of space, which has been the standard form of attack against us, might finally be resolved.

I know everybody thinking not another loan player but this lad seems a honest lad who really want to play for the town.
He said he could not wait to get here and its an honour to play for us.
Mick needs to get this lad on a contract as soon as he can.
Its nice to here someone who will wear the town shirt with pride and not just be here for the money.
I think Mick will make some good signings because players want to play for him.

Solid. At last a bit of competition at the back!

He looked pretty solid at when we played against him 1st game og the season. But lets be honest, we should of signed this sort of player 2 years ago. I feel our club is in good hands with mick at the helm. I love his no-nonscence style. Coybs!!!!

What a difference a couple of weeks make. From feeling as low as a duschunds dick, here we are signing players and playing them in their favoured positions. I just wonder where we would be now, had we have signed some of those who earlier in the season came for talks - just a thought ?

Warkthisway
(Rhodes, trotter, garvin), none of these RBs. believe in MM there wont be anyone leaving the club from the youngsters if they have anything about them, if he's left alone to get on with job.but never the less you do have to balance books and work to squad budgets but this makes for solvent football clubs which will allways fair better in long run

WeWereZombies: I take your point. Our goal difference is terrible. Just give MM a little time though. All we need is 11 x 2-1 victories and then we can forget about Blackpool and Palace. 33 more points would be nice as well!!

warkthisway, ageing at 30? What nonsense. May I ask who's fitness and pace created an 87th minute winner against Burnley? Oh yes, the even more ageing 34 year old Edwards. If you're good enough (Giggs, Scholes etc.) then age is just a number.

He looks like a good signing and anyone who doubts that the defence has "issues" should look at the goals against column.

That said, it is disappointing that we seem unable to produce from within. The signing of Youga effectively told Joe Whight that he wasn't good enough to be a reserve and now Hewitt is being told he isn't good enough either.

Ipswichbusiness - Sorry but i disagree - I think its telling them its not the right time for them to enter a relegation dog fight and maybe experienced heads are what are need at this stage. Who is telling them they are not good enough?. They have plenty of time on their side and I am sure you will see both become regulars in the coming seasons.
