Town Linked With Wellens Move
Sunday, 6th Jan 2013 12:30

Town boss Mick McCarthy wants to bring Leicester midfielder Richie Wellens back to Portman Road, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. The 32-year-old made seven appearances during a month-long spell at Portman Road during October and November.

Asked whether there was a chance of Wellens returning to Town on Thursday, McCarthy said: “Well, I need to get some players in, we’re talking about loads of them.

“We’ve been sat in there with [scouts] Dave Bowman, Taff and Steve McCall and we’re going through a list of names as long as my arm. I won’t talk about individual players who are at other people’s clubs.”

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are again reported to be in the chase for DJ Campbell. Manager Ian Holloway was the 31-year-old’s boss at Blackpool and is said to be at the front of the queue should QPR allow the ex-Blues loanee to move on.

Town boss Mick McCarthy confirmed after yesterday’s game that he is still looking to sign Town’s 10-goal top scorer, despite having added David McGoldrick and Aaron Mclean to his squad this week.

Wellens looked useful when he was here last, better than anything Reo-Coker can do. Not too worried about the amount of loanees coming through, MM just needs to stay up this season. Permanent signings can be done over the summer, when the team building begins in ernest.

Wellens got better with games but have to say we need someone younger, pacey, creative and a goal threat, difficult I know but we need something else.the likes of jet,reo-Coker are not the answer!

DJ return unlikely???

Redknapp selected DJ Campbell against the Baggies following his prolific loan spell at Ipswich and he wishes the striker had returned to the club sooner.

"I've had seven or eight clubs in for DJ Campbell from the Championship," he said.

"He gives everything. I like him a lot as a lad. He has got a good attitude. He will be handy for us. I wish I had had him here a month ago."

Not Wellens, for goodness sake. He is a trouble-maker.

Wellens? Maybe. DJ has gone for good, but Mick has already moved to plug the gap. I trust him to sort out the midfield too. Stay up this season and build for next.

Wellens didn't impress me during his loan spell. He was okay but no more. Think we need more creativity and attacking flair in midfield!!

love to see ambose back.wellens would help us cement a mid table position but going forward is unlikely to push us towards the play offs next season.support him if he comes but would rather see somebody younger if im honest
