Redknapp Pleased to See Campbell Return
Monday, 7th Jan 2013 09:54

QPR boss Harry Redknapp was pleased to welcome DJ Campbell back into the Loftus Road fold as the striker played the full 90 minutes in their 1-1 FA Cup draw at home to West Brom on Saturday. Blues boss Mick McCarthy confirmed that he is continuing his pursuit of the 31-year-old despite adding David McGoldrick and Aaron Mclean to his squad last week.

Redknapp says there has been plenty of interest in the frontman, who scored 10 goals in 17 games during three months on loan with Town: "I've had seven or eight clubs in for DJ Campbell from the Championship.

"He gives everything. I like him a lot as a lad. He has got a good attitude. He will be handy for us. I wish I had had him here a month ago."

Crystal Palace, who are managed by Campbell’s old Blackpool boss Ian Holloway, were again linked over the weekend, while Bolton were previously mentioned as a possible interested party.

McCarthy said that for Town — and presumably the other interested clubs — it will be a case of waiting and seeing what QPR want to do: “He might go back and they might want to keep him.

“I think they want to discuss that first, let’s get that out of the way - do they want to keep him, do they want to play him, do they want him in the squad? Then, if they don’t, then we can speak to them about him.”

Still surprised they couldn't have him back earlier tbh as he was their player - did we avoid that clause?

He wasn't named in their 25 man squad so they wouldn't have been able to play him anyway, therefore it would've been better for him to stay here and play games.

He wasn't in their 25-man squad so could only have been called back if they'd got special dispensation from the Premier League, which they probably wouldn't have received.

I don't think he's the answer to QPR's problems, so it's a choice for D.J I guess.... Palace or us.

He will be handy for us doesn't seem to indicate he will be their main man, will he really want to go back and sit on the bench knowing his contract is almost up? Maybe the decision will be down to DJ in the end or is that wishful thinking '

Think Harry is just using the media to increase the price for DJ (if he is good marketing by him cannot believe he thinks DJ is good enough to keep QPR in the premiership)

Well, he didn't impress many of the tabloids, who said he struggled.

Harry is just boosting dj's price up so he can make as much money on him as possible. Let's see how many games he gives campbell, if hes so pleased to see campbell return.

Ater signing McLean and McGoldrick on Friday I can only assume that MM doesn't expect DJ to be signing for us or else he surely would not have wasted half season loans on 2 strikers who would expect to play.

Village blue he has already said post those signings he wants DJ. Only one is def a permanent deal I guess the other may depend on DJ... With Scotland and the duke off and jet showing sat he hasn't got what it takes I think all three would be great, one of th new guys can play on wing too

I don't think he's that good any rate! just my opinion

Redknapp is just saying how valuable he is to the squad to push his price higher and get teams to add interest. I think us or Palace will sign him by the end of January. Just hope it is us!

He is QPR's answer as they will be relegated this season and will need a 20 goal Championship striker to get them promoted again next season. These players are difficult to come by.

Spiv Redknapp up to his old tricks again.

Milsey - he's done well for us but like you I don't think he's as good as some make out. Good piacher but do we need more? Certainly don't think money should change hands.

By the way i've just seen that Bolton have triggered a £300k release clause in Craig Davies contract at Barnsley, surely he would have been a good signing for that price?!

Whether he is good or not, he scored 10 in 16 for us, and that either puts him in the shop window (so Redknapp upping the price), or back with QPR. Either way, my hunch is we won't see him back in a Town shirt.

he wont be coming back and mcgoldrick is younger and clearly a goalscorer so im pleased we have him and always liked mclean.dj is a good goalscorer but if we would be signing him as a thirty something on the way down.a few years ago when peterborough were in L2 they made a decision to sign the up and coming players from the conferance...mclean being one of them boyd being another and those lads took them up 2 divisions i would like to see us do something similar

I think theres a but of billy bollocks about Harry's comments but read his comments again, he likes him as a bloke, no mention as a player.

As soon as he gets a decent offer for him he'll be gone, but I doubt it will be to town, my moneys on Crystal Palace however I hope I'm wrong as tired of all these loans and think he was terrific.

........ so much for the 'alleged' great friendship between Evans/Redknapp - HaHaHa - as someone has already said 'Redknapp the Salesman'.

However, anyone who doesn't rate DJ at Championship level - DOESN'T KNOW A PLAYER WHEN THEY SEE ONE.
Unfortunately, he won't be back here - I doubt.

Yes DJ is a goalscorer but like someone else said he is a 30+ player and we have just signed another natural goal scorer a lot younger and maybe hungrier then DJ, also do you remember when a certain curly haired 30+ player on loan at town was a hit but as soon as we signed him fulltime..........you know the rest IN MICK WE TRUST
