Reo-Coker Talks Set to Begin
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2013 08:52

TWTD understands that Town are set to begin talks with midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker regarding an extension to his Blues contract later this week. The 28-year-old’s short-term deal is up after Saturday’s game at Cardiff.

Last week, manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that he was keen to keep the former Aston Villa, Bolton, West Ham and Wimbledon man at Portman Road: “I want him to stay but that’s down to him. We’ll speak to his agent. Nigel knows I want him to stay and hopefully he will.”

Reo-Coker has made nine starts and two sub appearances since joining the Blues in October.

Meanwhile, Blues legend Paul Mariner has been sacked from his job as head coach of MLS side Toronto FC. QPR's New Zealand international defender Ryan Nelsen is his replacement.

Unfortunately, I didn't see the Villa game, but afterwards I asked if reo-Coker had done anything. Someone (sorry, I've forgotten your name) replied to say that Reo-Coker had an excellent first half but faded in the second. That tends to suggest that he's not match fit, yet. It may be that Mr McCarthy is hoping that a few more games will get him there. I, for one, would prefer to see the effort put into developing Hyam who I think is a very promising player.

Either unfit or lazy, not sure which. To date, has shown all the pace and direction of a Cromer crab. Might be brilliant in training, unfortunately the team gets no league points for that. Hyam isn't the finished article, but he never will be if continually kept out of the team by the loanees MM apparently dislikes so much. I wanted McCarthy to get the job and he's does great things so far, but I think a longer-term deal for NRC, probably an expensive one at that, would be a first false step.

Rather sign someone like Drury or Martin up not people who couldn't care much less about the club if they tried.

I very rarely comment, but having seen this work shy 'footballer' on Saturday away from home this time I feel I must comment. Nothing short of a disgrace the way he walked off the pitch with his 'villa mates'. Virtually all the team came to clap the away fans gathered in the villa dump of a stand on a cold Saturday on third round day. Not reo coker! Too interested in barking orders than actually contributing to the game. Needs to be sent packing immediately. FO elsewhere you 'Magilton type' footballer. Sideways or backwards. If the club sign him they will be like his 'passing' backwards!!!!

Must admit I tend to agree with The Unit (great name by the way!).

Hasnt done enough to earn a deal in my opinion, his attitude doesnt look great and how on earth can he still be unfit even without a pre season? I mean, he's been down here playing games for months now.

I also think everyone on here would much rather see Hyam given a decent run in the team which he's yet to been given.

...... whatever anyone says about this player, or any other for that matter, MM will never be swayed by 'punter opinion' - that's what makes him the man, and Manager he is. If he see's something in RC, he WILL be staying here on a longer contract - so quit the moaning .......

In MM we can, and do, TRUST - to lead us to that promised land !! ......

Talbs77, thanks for the support on the name!
Shame NRC didn't put himself about (the villa fans thought he was a good player in his time at that dump of a ground). Scum should sign him as they are pants.

Based on performances with us so far, no thanks. However Villa fans rate him & some I know would have him back even now to help ball retention. Always seems to pass to the nearest player usually sideways or backwards. He needs to sort his Bertie the Bast'd Big B'llocks attitude out. If there is much more to come then MM must have seen something we haven't.......... yet.
