Reo-Coker Leaves Town
Saturday, 12th Jan 2013 17:54

Manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has left the club at the end of his short-term contract. The former Wimbledon, West Ham, Aston Villa and Bolton man wanted a longer contract than the Blues were prepared to offer.

McCarthy left the 28-year-old out of the squad for today’s game and confirmed that he had left the club: “He’s not staying. I spoke to Nigel yesterday. Fair play to him he came in suited and booted and ready to go with the team."

The Town boss says the Blues were only prepared to offer terms to the end of the season with the player wanting a deal beyond that: “He wants a longer term contract, which I understand, I think he might have some other offers.

"I said fine, if that's the case, go home and I'll go with the other lads that we've got."

McCarthy says he was happy with Reo-Coker while he was at the club: “He’s been great, he’s been great around the place."

great news along with today's result gr8 day for ITFC. We def need a creative midfield player who will get box to box too. Someone in the mold of scott parker.

Didn't agree with this signing in the first place so to be honest not bothered he has gone. To me he showed nothing in terms of attacking threat, vey negative, sideways then backwards.proberbly more suited to three in midfield and he sat,as I said not really my cup of tea but hey good luck NRC.now try to bring in somebody more creative with more of a goal threat!

love the way MM deals with things . NRC never impressed for us - he seems to think he's still good , but he's not that good any more and probably would nave wanted good money . Hyam and Ndaw can be a much better partnership with more in the tank to come .

We could still do with an attacking / creative midfielder though .

The team did brilliant today , MM is assembling a TEAM for the future , next season we will be ready to push on

When we got him back in October he was without a club for a reason. We now know why.

As for all this rubbish about dyer,he is just one injury short of a disaster.the only club to do well out of him is when we got 6 mill from Newcastle!!! Pay as you play,do me a favour!

I bet NRC feels a bit of a fool now. It was his choice to have a contract till January in the attempt to shop window himself for a bigger club, but what he has done is reduced his marketability by playing poorly. Now he wants a long term contract to protect his future. Poor lad is not the player he used to be and the championship is too fast and competitive for him. How the mighty fall from grace.

Without being disrespectful to NRC this is great news. Not good enough IMO. Now give N'Daw and Hyam an extended run together with Drury as cover. Need to sign N'Daw permanently ASAP.

That's good news...Hyam a much better player in that position. NDaw must be signed. We now need better wide players, Edwards and Martin just don't deliver the goods, either crosses or scoring? What do think. any ideas?

As much use as an inflatable dartboard. He was lucky to get offered anything. Good riddance.

Really pleased to see this outcome - MM has performed wonders since he came but I was beginning to suspect he might have a soft spot for NRK - I should have been more respectful of MM - I guess he's played him recently to make sure he had the appropriate info to make the right decision, which he has now done - NRK was a very promising talent in his younger days but clearly his legs have now gone - won't be missed...

N-daws contract runs out at the end of the season were we can get him for free rather than paying a fee now.

As for creative midfeilders go i would go for Darren Ambrose or Sixto Peralta ; )

It hasn't worked out for him, I was pretty pleased when we first signed him but was a slight disappointment. Never mind, good luck wherever he goes in the future.

Glad to see NRC go. Good news. He did nothing apart from impersonate a crab.
Backwards , sideways and no pace .

Hyam is no better mind. We need better than him. He tries hard and is local but thats it.

Not sure who MM will get in but we have to sign NDaw at the end of the season but we need a forward thinking midfielder. I always think that Mc Cann at peterborough as a good playmaker. Bit old though .

No real interest shown on the pitch and lacking good work rate, resulting in little contribution to the side. Wish him best of luck elsewhere, but we deserve more from players!

overpaid, under worked, can do much better especially when we need some creativity in the centre

..... didn't really show enough to be offered more than til' the end of season - by which time he could / or not, as the case may have been, have proved himself.
My guess is that he has had an offer of a longer contract elsewhere - if so who can blame him ? - not a great loss for us other than from a cover point.

He'll be playing somewhere, maybe as early as next week.

yorkshire - do us all a favour and forget that one.....

I wish I could agree with you because he has undoubted talent, even now - but about as reliable as a cycle with a puncture ....!!
