Reo-Coker Leaves Town
Saturday, 12th Jan 2013 17:54

Manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has left the club at the end of his short-term contract. The former Wimbledon, West Ham, Aston Villa and Bolton man wanted a longer contract than the Blues were prepared to offer.

McCarthy left the 28-year-old out of the squad for today’s game and confirmed that he had left the club: “He’s not staying. I spoke to Nigel yesterday. Fair play to him he came in suited and booted and ready to go with the team."

The Town boss says the Blues were only prepared to offer terms to the end of the season with the player wanting a deal beyond that: “He wants a longer term contract, which I understand, I think he might have some other offers.

"I said fine, if that's the case, go home and I'll go with the other lads that we've got."

McCarthy says he was happy with Reo-Coker while he was at the club: “He’s been great, he’s been great around the place."

Narrowest of escapes there. Dyer no, even on a pay as you play, want a young player now, N'daw gives us experience and Drury is not exactly young, Hyam plus one other, agreed with Nick Powell, and if we really have to go for experiance, Jay Tabb from Reading ???

I'm sure he will find a manager some where who will think he can get him back to how he was, wait PJ has not not a club YET !!!!!!
Agree we need a midfield creator/ box to box player and we have Orr who can cover if we have a few middfield players out

With Big N'daw around the BIG defensive centre midfielder who can break up play position was already taken, a shame it didn't work out for both parties. A year ago or two every single town fan would have taken him for free in a heartbeat. Good luck NRC, I hope you find the right club in the future.

Wonderful. News , would not have been a good signing and more than happy to see him playing for the opposition

Sorry all the phew's etc I don't agree with. Past his best yes, not match fit yes, not as if we've just just side stepped a talentless twonk though, got better with games, as did his fitness. I agree short term contract though MM, too old to plan long term around, but don't think he deserves the stick above

IMHO NRC hadn't done enough to warr
ant being offered a contract to end of season so for him to turn it down he[or his adviser] either have a higher opinion of his ability than everyone else or some club has offered him more. If they have, good luck to him but it wouldn't surprise if he soon finds himself clubless again. We only want players that want to play for ITFC, NRC doesn't so we move on

I cannot believe he is only 28 becuase he plays like he's 38. Even Georgi Bingham was delighted about it on Talk Sport this evening :-)

Bye. Will we miss you? No

Dyer. No thanks.

Mick knows wha he wants. Nice to see a manager who is the boss.

A poor signing. Doesn't sound as though MM is too concerned. In fact his post match interview on Suffolk yesterday hinted he had plans for the summer. It would seem Nigel was seen as short term solution only. Best wishes to him though.

He just wasn't right for us! This league requires different skills and a dogged approach to be successful. Good luck to him for the future!
