Scotland's Contract Settled
Sunday, 20th Jan 2013 23:45

TWTD understands that Town have agreed to settle the remaining months of striker Jason Scotland’s contract. The 33-year-old’s time at Portman Road was previously due to end on June 30th.

Speaking two weeks ago, manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that Scotland’s spell with the Blues was coming to an end: “Jason is likely to be going somewhere. He’s been fabulous, Jason, he’s such a lovely character and a nice man, he’s been great around the place.

“But we’re going younger and hungrier, I guess, and unfortunately Jason’s missing out. But he understands and he’d like to go and play football somewhere in the twilight of his career.”

Doncaster Rovers, Wolves and Saturday’s opponents Barnsley are amongst the clubs understood to be interested in signing the ex-Swansea, St Johnstone and Dundee United man, while Brighton and Preston were also previously eyeing his situation.

Scotland joined Town for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £1 million from Wigan in August 2010. The former Trinidad and Tobago international made 59 starts and 38 substitute appearances while with the Blues, scoring 21 goals.

Elsewhere, Norwich City are reported to be leading the chase for Nottingham Forest keeper Lee Camp, who has also spoken to the Blues since being told be could leave the City Ground earlier in the month.

The 28-year-old Northern Ireland international is available on a free transfer and the Canaries are understood to have offered him terms until the end of the season with first-choice John Ruddy currently sidelined.

Ellington, a man with no shame. Like a bad smell in the changing rooms.

Best of luck to Jason. I disagree with some comments on here, personally I think he was a decent signing and actually scored a good number of goals one season. Most people were happy when RK signed him. However, Jason was very unlucky to be played as a loan striker in a negative 4-5-1 under PJ. Week in week out, people on here rightly commented that he is not a loan striker. Will never forget him ploughing a loan farrow in the 1-5 home debacle against Norwich! Nevertheless, despite the role, Scotland still gave 100%. It's not his fault that PJ played him in the wrong formation.

However, it's time to move on and it's clear that Scotland is not part of the longer term plan at ITFC, so best for both parties to settle his contract.

Cheers Jason Scotland. And for that matter, Chopra, Ellington, Martin, Edwards, Lee-Barrett, Carson.

Welcome McGoldrick, Mclean, and a resurgent Loach. Good luck Hewitt and JET.

COYB! Looking forward to a very exciting second half of the season.

AMAZING HE GETS PAID OFF when supposedly there are a host of clubs looking at him.

Do we ever sell a player or let them go on free transfers these days? Surely it would have been better to wait until the transfer window was closed to see if anybody came in for him and then we wouldnt have to pay his contract off.
Its bad business.it must have cost us a fortune in contract payoffs these last few years.

I don't actually care how old a player is as long as he plays well and offers something to the team. Always thought Scotland offered a lot more to the team compared to some players more than 10 years younger -for example JET.

Good luck in the future. My view is based more on highlights programmes than live but always looked like a player that wanted to try and score. a) I think this is a good thing b) not every player does ... Shame he wasn't always given the opportunity.

It was also nice to see a player accept that a pay cut to continue in a job was acceptable rather than just being a money grabber which is the impression a number give. Makes him a better professional in my eyes.

Ditto on the Idris Elba, did a double take !

We do seem quite happy to pay people off - Interesting one is Chopra - as he is 'skint' and if we 'assisted with his debts' he may be playing for us for nothing to pay it off - who knows
I think MM has seen enough of all the squad now to see what he wants and where he needs it
I would say farewell Martin , Edwards , Carson, ALB and poss JET , maybe they have dropped him to see how he reacts ??!! NEED A RB - Like Hewitt but need cover/ experience
Good things will come

Agree with lots of people on here about Scotland and I just don't see why we're letting him go when clearly he's the best striker we have (except maybe Taylor). Holds the ball, scores and does decent runs. Chopra out of form and Murphy and the new guys only ok at best. Yes, he's not the long term option but in the mire we are in we don't need one of those, we need one for now.

Agree with most on here I think he should be kept on short term.Hes not been picked to start to often but when he came on late he would do more than the rest, but when he started a game he was a lone striker very hard on anyone when our team never had any pace out wide.Would have liked to see him with Mc goldrick or Mc leanas 2up.Anyway good luck Jason you will do a good job in this league if played right ..

I would rather have Jason come on to either try to make something happen or just to hold it up and protect a lead than Flopra....

can chopra afford to pay off itfc so we can get rid?

Good luck to Jason. He seemed a pretty consistent dependable guy, especially coming off the bench. I'd prefer him in the squad for the remainder of this season rather than having to wait for 3 loanee strikers to hit form. Shame we didn't get him when he was a younger player.

Good Luck Jason Scotland. Very rarely did he let the team down and he scored some important goals. Made an impact on his last appearance as sub. Decent signing imo. Chops needs to start I feel or he'll be gone as well. JET has bags of potential and I think MM will persevere until the end of the season but he has to shape up and play to his strengths or cheerio. MM already building for the future and reducing the wage bill.

Why do we keep settling these players contracts when other clubs are interested in signing them? Surely we could get a nominal fee for them?

I suspect his contract has been paid up as a favour to him so as to give him plenty of time to find a new club - a reward for his services. If he'd been here until June or thereabouts he'd probably be one of many players looking for new clubs making it that much harder, which would be poor reward for his committment.

Has done well for us and has been a model professional, never heard him complain and always gave his best when given the shirt, i can understand the decision, he's surplus to requirements so there's no point him hanging about when he could be an asset elsewhere

Just a little video as a send off even if it does get the thumbs down
