McGoldrick Unconcerned By Lack of Goals
Friday, 22nd Feb 2013 16:32

He may have scored just once in his seven Championship starts for Ipswich but David McGoldrick is not too concerned with his modest return.

McGoldrick, who also drew a blank as a substitute in Town’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Aston Villa last month, has made it clear the emphasis is on the team and their ongoing battle to stay in the Championship.

The striker, on loan from Nottingham Forest, scored 17 goals in 25 appearances for League One side Coventry, a record that persuaded Town boss Mick McCarthy to bring him to Portman Road with the promise of a two-year permanent deal from July 1st.

McGoldrick said: “I’m happy with my performances, although obviously I would like a few more goals, but the most important thing is the results.

“In our situation it’s all about results. That’s what we need, more than personal performances. We just have to win games and get points on the board, and if we can keep playing the way we have been recently I am sure the goals will come.

“The lack of goals isn’t something I’m thinking about and certainly not to the point where it’s a concern. Right now it’s all about making sure we get safe and doing a job for the team — the dirty work if you like.

“I’m more than happy to do what they want me to do. I think the goals will come and if I’m selected on Saturday at Huddersfield I can see there being chances. Huddersfield have to come out of the blocks and go for the win, which could suit us.”

Found his level in League one and now struggling.

He was playing in a team which has been around the top of the table so chances were plenty; of course he's going to score more!
Now he's in a struggling side which doesn't create many chances.
That, PYBlue, is a much more reasonable conclusion.

Think its more to do with our Midfield not creating any chances, need a play maker and 2 new wingers. Ndou and Martin are not the answer.

I hope McGoldrick's move is made permanent in the summer. He can hold the ball up and lay it off, is strong in the air, tracks back to defend and rarely wastes a ball. More of an issue is finding someone to partner him up front (Taylor?), and putting together a midfield that has width, pace and creativity.

Agreed him and Taylor and a more consistent creative winger than Martin might reap better dividends next season.

No idea why McGoldrick and McLean are here to be honest, both poor at this level.

MM will be thinking strategically. We have to survive the drop and stay in this division. That's the only outcome that matters this season. His players will know that and realise that every player must play in a way that helps achieve that result. McG and the other forwards will know that the team's priority will be to limit the number of defeats rather than to entertain the supporters. Forget creative midfields and potent wingers this season. What we need is draws and wins. MM has been here before. He knows what he is doing. He won't listen to the likes of those who want more entertaining football. Certainly now ‘Daffodil' cracked a few vertebrae.

Looks a good player to me as said so many times even if had Van Persie or Messi up front wouldn't score in our team. We create nothing with hoof ball, feel sorry for our forwards. We never get wide and put in a cross, never play the ball to feet. It's just a fight in the air all the time which is meat and drink to a centre half.

I like him. Has worked hard and overall done well. Service to him hasn't been the best though.
