Skuse: Town a Sleeping Giant
Wednesday, 15th May 2013 09:10

New signing Cole Skuse says he views Town as a sleeping giant whose rightful place is in the Premier League. Yesterday, the club confirmed that the 27-year-old had agreed a three-year deal which he will sign on July 1st when his Bristol City terms are up.

Skuse, who had also been linked with Crystal Palace, told the club site: “Once I had decided to leave Bristol, I was flattered with the interest from other clubs and had a few options to weigh up.

“Ipswich stuck out though. I see the club as a sleeping giant and they should be in the top flight really.

“I’ve played at Portman Road a few times and it’s a great stadium and the support the club receives from the fans is fantastic.

“I spoke to a few players who have played there before, lads like Hendo [Stephen Henderson], Bradley Orr and Steady [Jon Stead].

“They couldn’t speak highly enough of the manager, staff and club in general. They said it was a good club to join so that was a factor in my decision but I was already looking at Ipswich to be honest.

“When you see they have a manager of Mick McCarthy’s standing in the game, you know it’s a club that is showing ambition.

“Moving to Ipswich is the next challenge for me and I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait to get started.”

Meanwhile, Town’s move to sign former loanee Jay Tabb on a permanent basis is reported to have hit a stumbling block with Middlesbrough and Birmingham also said to be showing interest.

The Blues made the offer of a two-year contract close to the end of the season with club and player both keen to get the deal done. The 29-year-old's Reading terms are up this summer.

Excuse me Bristol City!
Just signed a new guy, year's contract? 3!
Did he cost us a fee? No not a penny!
No mention of facilities but loves McCarthy!
So who is he, who can it be?
Your ex Skuse, ours at ITFC!

Blues1 - agree FA Cup should be the last game of the season and no others to be played on that day- Kick off for me at 3 is inconvenient- I have kids and can tell you by the time I've got home from morning activities, fed the buggers and cleaned up its 2.15 - hardly time to enjoy the pre-match build up- switching to 5.15 makes sense for me and if you look at the TV viewing figures a later time is watched by more

SereneBlue- apart from 10 games on loan what loyalty should Tabb have to us?- his loyalty is surely to his family and getting the best deal for them, i.e. £ notes. I would certainly be acting as he is right now and if you have a brain or any sort of career so would you. should we be showing loyalty to Tabb for helping us stay up and giving him the contract he wants? There is too much clichéd ill thought through garbage written on this website

this is just a news report, we have no hard facts here or do we ? it is likely to be his biggest contract decision so maybe he is just being sensible in listening to what is on the table, something we would all do.

Players are not supporters of the clubs they play for, it has a lot to do with the right decision financially for their families.

Sad but thats how it is, we look at it all through supporters eyes......no big deal here....coyb

You've hit it on the head 'to much cliched ill thought' mainly from the tosh you keep coming out with. As its happens I have a very successful career which was totally built on total commitment and a very clever brain. Tabb was playing in the stiffs for Reading and we offered him a life line back into first team football,if your happy for every Tom ,dick and Harry to put them selves into the shop window care of ITFC and then going off to the first club who offers him a quid more in wages to me that shows lack of commitment and not looking at the bigger picture .
3pm kick for every game. If your in disagreement then you are on the side of the money men.
