Town Start Season at Reading Wednesday, 19th Jun 2013 09:00 Town will open their 2013/14 Championship campaign against newly-relegated Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday 3rd August. Midfielder Jay Tabb will presumably be particularly looking forward to the game having left the Royals for the Blues this summer.
The first home match of the season against Millwall will follow the midweek Capital One Cup tie at Stevenage. Town’s groundstaff will be delighted that the Blues start with two away games with the pitch growing back after work to improve drainage earlier in the summer.
A tough-looking August continues with Mick McCarthy's men visiting QPR, Leeds making the trip to Portman Road and finally Town taking on Birmingham City away.
After an international break, September begins with back-to-back home games, against Tony Mowbray’s Middlesbrough and Yeovil’s first league visit to Portman Road, before the long trip to the third relegated Premier League side, Wigan.
The Blues visit Doncaster Rovers on Boxing Day and AFC Bournemouth on Sunday 29th December, while Charlton are at Portman Road on New Year’s Day.
Town are at Watford on Easter Saturday with AFC Bournemouth visiting Portman Road on Easter Monday.
The run-in sees the Blues end March with home games against Derby and Nottingham Forest before April matches against Blackburn and Huddersfield away, Doncaster at home, the Easter fixtures at Watford and at home to Bournemouth, then a visit to Burnley before the season ends on Saturday 3rd May when Sheffield Wednesday visit Portman Road.
Town have been handed several lengthy midweek away trips including the games at Derby County (Tuesday 1st October), Leeds United (Tuesday 28th January), the Blues’ first-ever visit to Yeovil Town’s Huish Park (Tuesday 11th March) and Huddersfield Town (Tuesday 8th April).

We had a newly-relagated side first up last season.

Happy with the start, shame that the Yeovil's are on tuesday nights but overall the fixtures look decent, promotion party at home to Sheffield Wednesday! COYB

Tough start but there are some teams who will still be settling after a large overhaul so it may be good to get QPR/Reading out of the way early! Definitely be looking to get to the Reading game! COYB's!

Well Sky often give newly relegated and promoted sides a live game on the first weekend, so it'll be interesting to see if this is rearranged. Personally I'd prefer to go to the Madejski either way. Nice to see us finishing at home too. The optimist in me says you never know what Portman Road might have to celebrate by then... ;)

From what I remember it seems we seem to do well against tough opposition and games we should walk over we often struggle or lose. Hope Mick breaks that mould and we have a solid start AND finish this season. Looking forward to it though.

It would be better if we had Norwich away. Fingers crossed that they come down next season, or we go up!

QPR, Wigan and Reading three of our first four away games! Perfect. Cant ask for much more than that really! Get the tougher ones out of the way early...

To be fair in this league you are never going to have an easy month.
Surco72 added 10:08 - Jun 19
good time to play relegated teams early on as they are still adjusting and hopefully not in full stride , certainly better than playing them in the run in . Maybe opening day tv fixture also
Michael11 added 10:10 - Jun 19
@Surco72 Agreed. All the pressure will be on Reading and Qpr to bounce straight back up when in reality they could still be deflated from relegation so if we get in their faces early on i can see us getting points there.

We have to play them all at some time but what a tough start that is. Disappointed we are not at home again on Boxing Day but at least we are at home on the last day of the season. Blackpool away in November how bleak but it is the last weekend of the illuminations.

No games are easy in this league, so it's always a tough start. Bring on the new season!

hollywoodginge added 14:31 - Jun 19
They are all tough games in this league, I remember the start of last season it seemed every other week we were playing the team top of the league at the time or if not they went top by beating us!! Hopefully we will have a better start to build on, It's impossible to predict what's gonna happen and who's gonna finish where but just take it one game at a time and see what happens :0)

On paper a tough start. BUT then again have we got anything to be scared of? We beat Millwall, Leeds and Birmingham at PR under MM last season. Reading and QPR away are obviously tough, but on the other hand it may be a good thing having these two games at the start of the season, as both adapt to Championship life.

Hard first 2 months of the season if we get 20+ points and progress to the second round of the coc that would definatly be playoff form it is doable we just have to buy a consistant striker to knock in those goals maybe benzia from olympique lyon?? We can do it this year definatly with such a strong back four even if we do not get stearman hewit is more than capable of being good enough to withstand chapionship strikers and wingers!! COYB in mick we trust

Call me Mr Grumpy but I always feel that one of the two Xmas games (26th and 29th Dec) should be at home when fans can attend as a family.
Talbs77 added 19:12 - Jun 19
Agree with EatonBlue, expecting fans to travel the distances like Doncaster and Yeovil over Xmas is another smack in the face for fans at analready expensive time for people.
