Ainsworth: Grant Yet to Decide on Future
Wednesday, 19th Jun 2013 16:02

Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth says winger Joel Grant is yet to decide where his future lies once his contract at Adams Park is up at the end of the month. The Blues, who watched Grant regularly last season, are understood to have offered the 25-year-old terms.

Ainsworth told the Bucks Free Press: "Joel was one of the top performers last year and it would be crazy if I didn't try to keep him.

"To compete with Ipswich is momentous. It's fantastic for Joel to be linked with a great, historic club like Ipswich.

"Whatever Joel decides, I know he can be a great player for Gareth Ainsworth, but equally I would be a very proud man if he goes on to play at a higher level. Either way there's no decision yet from Joel."

Does Gareth Ainsworth always refer to himself in third person?

Maccyd9 feels that Joel Grant would be a good signing for the club and Maccyd9 thinks this is a cheap risk worth taking.

Can he cross the ball? If so then it's a huge improvement on LM.

Hampstead - If he can beat a player , not get stupid bookings and score afew goals he is a better player - and value for money vs Martin - got to be a better all round bet ..Need wingers and MM likes em !!

hamstead blue I think we better reseve judgment on whether he is better than martin til we have seen him play but the attitude you display in your post towards martin is the sort of attitude we must cut out paticulary as wingers are usually confidence players.
Lee martin was an attacking midfield player who was played out of position and never moaned but certain people saw fit to constantly moan about him which did nobody any good.
If this lad comes and I hope he does we need to encourage him and forgive him mistakes really let him know that we are right behind him

Perhaps I'm a bit naive, but surely we want players that really want to play for us, not players that need shed loads of time to decide.

Lee Martin? I've got a feeling he'll come back and bite us on the bum. Good luck to him, I really hope he proves the doubters wrong

Not being funny but how much thought do you need to give when thinking of moving to a much bigger club, probably a pay rise and two divisions higher? Would like us to sign him because our midfield and wings particularly lack pace.

I believe he has already agreed to join us once his Wycombe deal is up. All to be confirmed in coming days

I can't say I know a lot about the boy but its always nice to hear a manager speak so highly of our club.

The fact he's free means he's worth taking a chance on.

We're lacking in flair at the moment. Especially if JET moves on. I really think this guy would be a great addition. Has very quick feet and can beat his man.

Am I just very pessimistic or is anyone else concerned that Middlesbrough aren't also linked with him!!!!

theobald1985 - any player that makes rash tackles and gets himself booked and sent off so many times deserves criticism, especially when at the end of the day it costs the team vital points when involved in a relegation fight. Played out of position or not, If he had been a little more succesfull on the goal scoring front/provider/assists etc it could have been a different outcome.
I cite one Roy Keane as proof, sent off countless times, but would always have got into anyones first team line up purely on his commitment and success as a player. You are measured on what you achieve in all walks of life, unfortunatly for us he has achieved nothing here, just like Keane. Apparently you can still hear Alex Ferguson's laughs echoing around Old Trafford, from when the transfer went through.
Oh what a shame that Roy Keane became our manager - wasted years, wasted money.

Steelmonkey players who dont try or use the club may deserve it
but that is not the case with lee and he played loads of games for us last season and was a key player and automatic first choice during most of micks revival hence mick offered him a contract.
Are u sugggesting mick does not know what he is doing.
He was on pro terms with united and when keane loaned him to charlton he was great for them so good in fact paul j recalled him straight away.
So he got sent off a few times so what at least he cared.
He provided great support for cresswell which is acknowledged by cressy himself.
If this new lad comes in and has a few bad games im worried that people like you will start having a go like always and lets face it the boo boys have been wrong about most things delaney for example

Slowerball, if we have already offered terms then I guess we don't need permission from Wycombe!!

Plus players are free ,from around Jan, (Phil can you confirm this?) in their last year of their contract to talk to other clubs. Remember, McCauley & Norris? It's what they did.

Grant would be crazy not to join the MM revolution, ITFC is going places. COYB!!

Theobald1985 - Top post. Lee Martin is a very good player & I think MM would have got the best from him this coming season. A big loss for Town IMO. And before the minus signs start clocking up, remember folks MM liked Martin - he offered him new terms. We just couldn't offer nowhere near the money he came in on, under the new FFP rules. And who wants to take a pay cut if you don't have to?

I'm sure he will sign early next week. Why would he stay at W W when he can play for a good team like Town.it's a no brainier in my book

From WW to MM ... but is he good enough to turn the world upside down too?

My point exactly Theo, first choice, given every opportunity by three managers, failed to get his contract renewed. LIke you he thinks he is a better player than he is.
Lee was a trier, just over complicated the good things he did, if he had played the game simplier, been more of a team player, stopped trying to be the hard man -Jewels words- he might still be here. If he cared enough he would have been more careful not to have left the other ten men to try and salvage some points.
Warkys Tash - Who on earth is going to offer him anywhere near the money he was on, with the non disciplined, and often wholly inadequate woeful performances he displayed. Promised so much but couldn't deliver. And he will have to take a pay cut, whoever he signs for. Obviosly not interested or committed enough to fight for a place here.
