Cresswell: A Right Rare Goal Tuesday, 24th Sep 2013 06:01 Aaron Cresswell’s clincher against Yeovil was not his first goal with his right foot — but he admits it might be his last. Cresswell has been talking about the moment he earned all three points for Town when he fired past on-loan Yeovil goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey at Portman Road on Tuesday. The left-back said: “I am always looking to get forward and when Didsy [David McGoldrick] passed the ball to me I tried to fizz it across low towards Murph at the far stick. “Thankfully, when it was blocked it came straight back to my left foot. But I actually took a bad touch and that put it on my right. In the end I was just relieved that it went in. “It’s not my first right-foot goal but my second. I scored last year, I think it was at Wolves, but that’s it so far. I don’t expect to be scoring too many more with my right.” Cresswell also explained the celebration that followed his sixth goal in what's now 102 appearances since his arrival from Tranmere in July 2011. He laughed: “It was a little personal joke for one of the boys back home. We went to Las Vegas in the summer and he’s got to be one of the worst dancers I’ve ever seen in my life. Basically, it was a tribute to him for his dancing skills!” But although every goal is welcome, Cresswell admitted his first priority as a defender is to prevent conceding them at the other end. He added: “I don’t set myself any target each year. If I get goals I see it as a bonus. As a defender it’s all about clean sheets first and anything else is a bonus. “All the back four have scored now but there’s no competition going on between us. Our first aim will always be a clean sheet. Goals — and even assists — are a bonus.” Meanwhile, Liverpool-born Cresswell will not be following fellow defender Luke Chambers’s lead and looking for dual citizenship in an effort to carve out an international career for himself — just in case England don’t come calling. He said: “Good luck to Luke with Ireland but I don’t qualify for any other country. Maybe my best chance is if they have a Scouse national team!”
