Town Set to Sign Stephen Hunt
Thursday, 7th Nov 2013 15:25

TWTD understands that Town are set to sign former Wolves and Reading winger Stephen Hunt on a short-term deal until January. Hunt, 32, has recently been training with the Blues at Playford Road.

Ireland international Hunt is a player Mick McCarthy was interested in signing early in the summer following his release by Wolves.

After a move to Saturday's opponents Blackpool broke down, Hunt joined the Blues squad for training, although at the time McCarthy played down the chances of him joining the club. More recently Hunt was linked with a move to Millwall.

McCarthy took Hunt to Molineux from Hull City for £3 million in August 2010 and he was a regular in his side for the next two seasons.

The ex-Crystal Palace, Brentford and Reading man missed much of last season due to calf and hernia problems before returning to action in March but couldn’t prevent his former club from plummeting into League One.

Hunt is likely to be in the Town squad travelling to Blackpool on Saturday.

trouble with you blueboy, is you seem to expect us to be playing the same way as we were in the latw 70s, early 80s. wed all like that, or something resembling that but its not gonna happen. of course, the football were playing at the moment is far from entertaining and I am no more happy with that than you are. But, we just have to accept that it 1 step at a time. as you say, we are a potentially large club still, but were also the longest serving team in the championship, and for some time have been far from being the best in this division. what mm has achieved so far is superb, after the mess left by fk and pj, but itll take time for us to be good enough for us to see the football we want/ as for those slating this signing/ why? does ne1 know for a fact that hes past it? hes in his early 30s, hardly old. would you slate gigs if we were signing him? leat give the guy a chance before writing him off. may take him a few games to really get into his stride, but im willing to wait and see. actually think there are people on here whod slate messi if we were about to sign him too(hyperthetical comment btw). as for the fact that hunts a former wolves player. so what? most managers sign players they've worked with before, so nothing unusual about that

@Keanish. I have to agree, Mick Mills is a Town legend, but he has a dreadful record in management & should never be boss down at PR. However, I do enjoy his comments & radio punditry.

Does McCarthy actually have a clue about anything. Why bring in Hunt?? Oh yeah he signed him before so he must be a great player. I had a very low opinion of MM when he became manager and that opinion gets lower every day. Come on give me minuses but do you really want to watch this excuse for football, I don't and obviously the ROI didn't-- what a pity

Hunt has not signed permanently for anyone presumably because he has high wage expectations. He now knows he needs to be in the shop window so Mick will have got him for a relatively modest wage so he can add something for a couple of months. Hunt will absolutely bust a gut to try and bring himself to the attention of a big spending club. I reckon it's worth the deal. To use Micks phrase "he adds something". Either he will get in the squad or he will push players in the squad to be better. It's a couple of months what's everyone's problem?

Anyone seen the video of him from the official site? Good luck to him, but he hardly looks fresh and his prime!
