Town Set to Sign Stephen Hunt
Thursday, 7th Nov 2013 15:25

TWTD understands that Town are set to sign former Wolves and Reading winger Stephen Hunt on a short-term deal until January. Hunt, 32, has recently been training with the Blues at Playford Road.

Ireland international Hunt is a player Mick McCarthy was interested in signing early in the summer following his release by Wolves.

After a move to Saturday's opponents Blackpool broke down, Hunt joined the Blues squad for training, although at the time McCarthy played down the chances of him joining the club. More recently Hunt was linked with a move to Millwall.

McCarthy took Hunt to Molineux from Hull City for £3 million in August 2010 and he was a regular in his side for the next two seasons.

The ex-Crystal Palace, Brentford and Reading man missed much of last season due to calf and hernia problems before returning to action in March but couldn’t prevent his former club from plummeting into League One.

Hunt is likely to be in the Town squad travelling to Blackpool on Saturday.

Let me get this right a natural left winger or attacking midfielder, knows where the goal is and only on a short term contract so if it doesn't work out we lose little. Will be desperate to play at the top of his game to earn his "last" contract with us or a n other. How can anyone think this is a bad move?

..... anything can only be an improvement in terms of attack / going forward - however this smacks of just giving another 'ex wolve' a job until the New Year. A bit of Festive Spirit maybe .... !!

Start getting the best from thee squad we have MM - by playing players in their best positions - examples shouldn't be needed by those with a Football brain.

...... and the LEGEND with the same initials (MM) knows his stuff - absolutely right about the craziness of playing 8 defensive minded players at HOME.
A pleasure to listen to such knowledge on the Radio - long may it continue.

Not going to get overly excited, getting smart you see ;-) however, i'm confident Mick wouldn't sign him (given our finances) if he didn't see him as a genuine asset to the team.

Assuming he's fit, it's a good thing, don't want to hear the "he's old brigade" players these days tend to look after themselves, i'm sure most would still take Giggs in a heart beat and he's 63 or something.

He's also only a year younger than me, and i'm probably in the best shape of my life at the moment, so....scientific proof he'll be okay.

Only time will tell. In Mick we trust huh? Not like he's done a bad job so far.

Jimmy86 unless Micks asked Anderson to play as the invisible man role on the wing theres no excuses for his woeful displays so far.
As far as Hunts concerned i agree with bluelady. He will br desperate r earn a longer contract so should put the effort in,if he doesnt he's out the door. Will give us much needed width.Hopefully now Tunners will get a run in the middle which should benefit the team aswell.Win win hopefully

Billblue - Really ? - i suspect the majority of Wolves fans would have MM back in a flash, look how they have done since he left !
Jimmy86 - i agree , a lot of people seem to have ignored the fact that Anderson has been asked to play inside and so to criticise him for not hugging the touchline is unfair. Having said that im not sure he is really the right player for that inside role. He works his socks off but doesnt really influence the game enough.
I think Hunt's arrival may well see Tunnicliffe move inside for Hyam, who i think needs a break.
LH is still very young and will come back stronger from it.

Like this.

Like that he's been training with us for a long time. MM and TC can see his fitness and he must feel part of the squad already. Badly need someone on the left and perhaps an older wiser head will be a good foil for Cresswell.

Tunicliffe in the middle...Taylor on the right...

I wish him well, but can't really see how this will benefit us. If he plays well, he'll leave for another club in January. If he doesn't do so well, then we won't have got any value out of him. Sounds like the Reo-Coker situation last year. In the end that was fairly pointless.

From comments on here ITFC fans are the most cynical & hard to please there are. Just compare the tables between this year & last year!! They don't deserve anything better.

will be good to have him in there, been training with us so should fit straight in and know how the other lads play.

We have a wide player in Anderson and Mick makes him play inside. What will happen to Hunt? Can't see him being a whole lot different to Tabb to be honest.

I'd try Taylor wide left and the usual two upfront.

Happy with this signing, but very concerned Mick 'midtable' McCarthy could end up doing a Rhodes with Jack Marriott here.

This club lacks ambition (blub)....if ME had any ambition we'd be signing Ozil (blub)

I know what lets get in another Wolves has been and rather than build for the future send one of our up and coming youngsters out on loan to a side bottom of the Conference.
What the f2ck

Let's see how he does. 55 goals over a long career is not bad and better than the current midfielders' tallies (Tunnicliffe 0, Hyam 1, Skuse 9, Anderson 24). Importantly, can he provide a decent service to our strikers? At 32 I doubt he has much pace though, so that will be lacking from the side still.

I agree with the comments about moving Tunnicliffe into the centre.

obviously Mick feels he does not need a goal scorer. err down is the only way.

As with all short term loans- if it works out,great..if not then we all move on..judging by the standard of service last friday night,he's just what we need at the moment.

Let's hope he has the same impact that Bullard did when he 1st joined.

I think this is a good signing by MM ,will add the balance we need on the left and experience at this and higher level ,also could chip in with much needed goals from midfield and will allow Tunnicliffe to move inside .
Was wanted by Blackpool and Reading so must be showing something to managers
