Hunt in Strong U21 Squad Facing Brighton
Monday, 11th Nov 2013 13:04

New signing Stephen Hunt has been named in a strong U21 squad for this evening’s Professional Development League Two game against Brighton and Hove Albion at Portman Road (KO 7pm). Also set to start are Scott Loach, Elliott Hewitt, Anthony Wordsworth and Frederic Veseli, while Alan Lee is in the squad.

Hunt, who made his Blues debut as a sub at Blackpool on Saturday, is short on match fitness having been without a club since leaving Wolves at the end of last season.

Many of the watching scouts are likely to be keeping an eye on midfielder Wordsworth, who Mick McCarthy has said is available for loan.

We understand the presence of senior Southend staff at the Bristol City U21 game recently was in part to check out Wordsworth, who in the end wasn’t involved in that match.

Season ticket holders, Gold and Silver members and Junior Blues can gain entry for free, with tickets otherwise priced at £3 adults and £1 for U16s with only the Cobbold Stand open.

Wordsworth is too good for Southend. Even going back to Colchester would be a bit of a drop down. He looked a very good player when he first signed so i hope he'll be given a chance in the long term.

I think, if given the choice, I would go with Bullard's flowing golden locks over Hunt's mullet.

looks like we're carrying quite a lot of dead wood in the reserves

Stephen Hunt, Alan Lee and U21. Reading these together just brings a smile to my face every time .

Good to read that Wordsworth is having a game. Rather than not playing it would be no harm if he had a few weeks out on loan which did not do Taylor any harm.

I am sure Wordsworth will have his chance in the New Year. It's a long season and we shall need his flare. For MM's liking, the defence has been leaking too many goals and until that becomes rock solid (like it was when Stearman was RB) MM will not go with the luxury of Wordsworth. Much the pity!

After Saturday who knows what Mick will do.First time that he has played attacking football(2nd half) although still started game with same formation as usual.Only time under his reign I can recall this happening was when we beat Boro 4-0 and TC was in charge for the one match as MM was ill.
Looks like at last have a plan B as this was practised in run up to Blackpool match

This pay as you play deal could be quite an earner for Hunt after all! Under 13s game next!
