Colchester Interested in Woody Return
Tuesday, 12th Nov 2013 10:06

Colchester boss Joe Dunne has declined to comment on speculation linking Blues midfielder Anthony Wordsworth with a loan return to the Weston Homes Community Stadium. On Saturday, Town manager Mick McCarthy revealed that he’s looking to get the 24-year-old out on loan in order to get games.

The U’s manager was joined by his chief recruitment scout Brian Owen — a coach at Town in the Sir Bobby Robson era — at Portman Road last night to watch Wordsworth in action for the Blues’ U21s in their 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

While Dunne wouldn’t be drawn on whether he would like to take Wordsworth back to North Essex for a temporary spell, the Colchester Daily Gazette understands that the League One club would be interested in doing such a deal.

The MK Dons were amongst the other clubs to send representatives to last night's match and it's likely that Colchester wouldn't be the only interested party.

Dunne coached Wordsworth as he came through the ranks at Colchester and made him his captain last season prior to his £100,000 January switch to the Blues.

The Londoner’s opportunities have been limited since he moved to Portman Road and this season, having missed the start of the campaign with a calf injury, he has made only two brief substitute appearances and has only occasionally featured in the matchday 18.

Meanwhile, Leicester will be without Anthony Knockaert when they face the Blues at Portman Road a week on Saturday as the winger has amassed five bookings and is suspended.

Great news about the Knockaert suspension. I think Mings would've struggled against his pace and skill. Not sure who will be right back as they will need to handle Lloyd Dyer - maybe a recall for Hewitt as he is probably our quickest full back?

Mings hardly struggled against Ince's pace and skill on Saturday.

Keep Skuse at right back

Ince has had a quiet season as the Blackpool fans pointed out. Skuse has been one of our most consistent performers in the middle of the park. I see no use for him at right back. Edwards may fill the gap as he did on saturday

Wouldn't mind letting Wordsworth out on loan for a month to a League One. Let him get sharp and then back in time for the busy Christmas schedule.

Can't see what Woody is ever going to offer us now. shame as i like him, but i think he is going to fade away into obscurity...

Wordsworth needs some matches.

Mark my words, his time will come!

Maybe going back to Col. U. is the easy option for Woody. Maybe he should try pastures new for a while (and ideally come back ready to challenge for a first-team spot).

Best news in that whole story was Knockaert being suspended against us. IF we can keep David Nugent quiet (unlikely) then we have a real chance of beating them. I think it's good that McCarthy is willing to let players out on loan, it keeps them match fit and gives them a chance to get some confidence.

Don't think Hewitt will be picked at right back against Leicester as he has not impressed of late at under 21 level. Skuse played well at right back at Blackpool but was missed in midfield. Edwards could therefore get the nod unless Smith is back in time and fit to play in which case I suspect Chambo will revert to full back. Only my thoughts as Mick knows best.

..... probably wished he'd never left them with his lack of opportunity to date.

Michael11 - ... keeping Nugent quiet would certainly be a first - and most unexpected. He'll probably be confident of adding to his goal tally yet again.

Wordsworth was dire in the under 21's match Monday night. Do not think he will ever be first team player.
