Watford Appoint New Boss
Wednesday, 18th Dec 2013 11:52

Saturday’s opponents Watford have appointed former Siena, Palermo and Chievo Verona boss Giuseppe Sannino as their new head coach, Gianfranco Zola having resigned earlier in the week.

The 56-year-old, who is joined at Vicarage Road by assistants Francesco Troise, Giovanni Cusatis and Paolo De Toffol, is set to be in charge of the Hornets for the first time at Portman Road on Saturday.

Zola left the club he took into the play-offs last season following a run of nine games without a win. They are currently 13th in the Championship table.

The Blues will be looking to beat the Hornets at home for the first time in nearly 10 years on Saturday.

Watford were last defeated on Suffolk soil in March 2004 when Dean Bowditch netted a hat-trick and Jermaine Wright added a late fourth in a 4-1 win, Scott Fitzgerald scoring for the visitors.

I will be cheering on the mighty blues with all my heart as usual however this really concerns me because I think watford have some of the best players in the league with those players pplaing to impress their new boss I fearit wont be good for us on saturday. I was pretty confident before Zola went.

I can see Lewis McGugan scoring a screamer to win it for Watford

Watford have not won in 9 games. There's a reason for that. They are playing poorly. A new manager (especially one with no experience of English football) will not have the necessary impact in a couple of days to fix whatever is wrong. At least that is the way i see it.

Fortress Portman Road! Come on you Blues!

Sannino is going to get a rude awakening when he comes up against McCarthy's hoof tactics on Saturday. No doubt it will take him several games to get over the culture shock of Championship football.

What I've heard they are not playing 'that badly' but haven't been able to hit a barn door with a banjo - a new boss in is never a good sign (I wonder what the win % is when a new boss arrives on his 1st game?) whether he can speak English or not won't really matter it's just a fresh beginning and a new mentality, anyway he'll have an interpreter.

I agree with Andys legg that they will want to impress their new boss, but this may work in our favour. Each player wanting to impress will mean they may not play so well as a team, after all we all know that football is most certainly a team effort. I will show my increased faith in all thats blue and now go 4-1 to the blues. C.O.Y.B !!!!!!!

Clearly Zola isn't aware of our dire record against Watford otherwise he might have given it one more game before deciding to walk away!! Anyway, if we beat them it will prove that we have well and truely turned a corner under Mick. COYB

Watford is owned by Italians (Pozzo's), most of their players are Italian, their last manager was Italian and this guy is Italian. The fact he might not speak English is not exactly a problem is it!!

"Dean Bowditch netted a hat-trick"

I thought we would see these words much more over the years, shame he never became the player we hoped.

Is It just me or does he look like he's wearing one of those bald caps on his head? Like a swimming cap.

OK, its just me then.

No problem, we are confident anyway and we should focus on ourselves although I'm sure Mick is telling the players that Watford will be up for it. One thing is for sure I would rather have Mick as a manager than this bloke. Never managed outside Italy, what a dreadful appointment. Karanka at Middlesbrough will be a failure too, just like Solbakken was at Wolves.

You can look at Saturday whichever way you want. If you believe in the law of averages we will win. If you believe a new Manager will make an impact we may struggle, but if you have Mick McCarthy there is no reason why we should not win. I also should add that the Referee appointed for Saturday was in the middle for the 7-1 drubbing at Peterborough.

Bohslegend - McCarthy won his first game away for us after we failed to get a win in 9 (or something ridiculous like that). Watford will be out to impress the new guy, so I can see it being close.

Still want Ipswich to win... I'll go for a 3-2 Ipswich win.

if a man of zolas stature couldn't get them to play for him then surely this new unheard of guy hasn't got much chance.
C.O.Y.B. Lets put them to the sword!!

It's the season of 'Law of Averages'. Leeds and Burnley hadn't won here for years but did this Autumn whereas we hadn't beaten Huddersfield at home for ages but did recently. So, it's time to put the record straight with Watford

...... attack them from the start and we'll win this - back off and we'll lose it. if this happens lets not make the excuse of the fact that they have a new Manager - please.
