McCarthy Watches Palace's U21s
Tuesday, 21st Jan 2014 12:31

Town boss Mick McCarthy was spotted watching Crystal Palace’s U21s beat their Bristol City counterparts 2-0 at Tooting and Mitcham’s KNK Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Amongst the players that McCarthy, whose family home is not too far away in Bromley, will have caught in action were former Blues midfielder Owen Garvan and one-time Town keeper Neil Alexander.

Garvan was left out of Palace’s 25-man Premier League squad for the first half of the season and is believed to have been the subject of interest from unnamed Championship clubs during this transfer window.

Ex-loanee Tyrone Barnett was in action for the Robins following his recent loan from Peterborough, McCarthy having made an enquiry regarding the striker prior to his switch.

I wouldnt mind Garvan back. Not many players can spot a pass or through ball like he can.
Doubt it tho as he doesnt run around at 100mph for 90 minutes.
More than likely he was watching a right back even tho we have 2 or another centre half so when cresswell goes he can sign him and revert to 5 at the back with chambers and mings as the fullbacks. We cud get loads of 0-0 draws with 5 centre halves across the back surely?

BillBlue.....yes ,but what I cannot understand is the reason why. What is the point of getting in overage players and paying fat wages.I think what we already have is fine, but it just needs tweeting and moving a few players back to where they played at the end of last season, and why is Hunt not given a run.!!

We don't have a creative midfielder with vision in the squad and we have not had one since Keane was here. I would be happy with a Garvan-esque type of player.

I just cannot see us getting any new faces in this window with all the rumours that fly about ???? So we will have to be content with what we have got,, and try to be happy with a mid table finish again ???? and know that we are the longest serving team in the Championship !!! Also Knowing that The Dark Lord and Jewellio spent most (and wasted) Marcus Evans available money for ITFC !!!!!!!

Agree with GCB. I think we are less reliant on old has-beens than we have been for ages, and we are showing more commitment to youth - Cat 1 Academy etc. Surely it's a good thing long-term that money is going into setting up the Academy, rather than into a squad that we couldn't sustain under the FFP rules.

We got out of almost certain relegation last season, and we had good unbeaten sequences this year. We even fleetingly sneaked into the play-offs. Then we lose a couple of games, one against the best team in the division, who we matched for half a game, and all of a sudden everyone in management gets a blitzkrieg. Paranoia.

I agree that the last two managerial appointments were very poor, and our tactics in some recent games, especially Millwall, have been questionable, but you have to cut MM and TC some slack surely?
