Taylor Hopeful of Extending Hewitt Loan
Friday, 31st Jan 2014 10:06

Gillingham manager Peter Taylor hopes that Blues right-back Elliott Hewitt’s loan will be extended until the end of the season before the January transfer window closes at 11pm this evening.

Hewitt joined the Gills in November but only recently returned to action with the League One club after suffering an ankle injury.

“We are very, very hopeful that we’re going to keep Elliott Hewitt until the end of the season,” Taylor told the Gillingham official site. “That’s not been 100% confirmed but as we speak we still have a few hours to get that done.

“I’m hopeful, Elliott’s hopeful and Mick McCarthy’s hopeful that we can get everything agreed to keep him until the end of the season. That would be a major signing for us.”

Having signed Frazer Richardson on loan, McCarthy has said he is happy for Hewitt to remain with Gillingham and another right-back, Freddie Veseli, to stay with his loan club Bury.

Gillingham face Port Vale at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday, while Bury are scheduled to take on Wycombe Wanderers at home.

Having left the Gills earlier in the week, Blues striker Jack Marriott will be back with former loan side Woking for their home game against Forest Green Rovers in the Skrill Premier.

Bring him back and give him a shot on the right wing.

If he plays regularly it's the best thing for him. Sitting on the bench at pr is not good for his development.

I agree that he'll benefit from staying there for the season. It's just a shame that we couldn't find Jack Marriott a team in League Two that would play him every week, we already know he can score in the conference but he needs to prove himself in a higher division before Mick will think he's ready for us.
