Town Squad in Portugal
Sunday, 2nd Feb 2014 15:23

The Town squad flew out to the Algarve for a short warm weather training camp earlier today.

We understand the Blues will be at a hotel with training facilities and a golf course until Wednesday with no midweek game scheduled before next Saturday’s visit to Barnsley.

The recent wet weather has led to heavy pitches at Town’s Playford Road training ground with academy and U21 matches having been postponed.

Definitely a very wise move. We can't afford any injuries or undue fatigue caused by training on unsuitable surfaces.

Ohh to have the life of a footballer.

So, after 100 mins of confusing 2nd rate hoof-it-on-the-roofball, we scrape 3 point thanks to a penalty, I motorbike home down the A14 again freezing my nuts off in a gale. Meanwhile the team are packing their Speedo's for a few days in the Algarve. Life can be so unfair.
Oh well, better get on with the ironing….

Just off to Portugal (albeit Madeira) for a week tomorrow. Only downside is that I shall miss Oakwell next Saturday.

Should have said that last time I was in Madeira for a Barnsley v Ipswich match we came back from a pathetic 2-0 down at half time to win 5-3. We enjoyed it on Sky.

petermorris - I expect you passed Chambo and Smithy, two up on their CG 125 on the way to Stansted! pity poor Luke, I hear he rides a Honda crunch complete with oversized top box.
TC on a 400/4.....
better stop now before I get carried away

@PeterMorris Damn the Ipswich players for making you motorbike home on the A14 in the freezing rain. (They did force you didn't they? You didn't perhaps do it out of choice and the players actually had no say in the matter?)

Good for some team bonding too I'd imagine. A small cost financially in terms of the grand scheme of things so I'm all for this

What's wrong with Playford Road? Better then most championship level training grounds I have heard.

What's the point?

EJP - Nowhere in my post did I imply that I was ‘forced'. I did it as the result of a worrying >40 year habit. As far as the players are concerned? Who'd say no?.... really you need to get a grip.
Beerhelps (Hondaman). You've got me started now. Might do the Barnsley game on my 6v Crunch!

I'm pretty sure that this will guarantee a win on Saturday. Very smart move by the club.

how much is this costing? apparently we have no money? hope it works and we get a win at Barnsley, but these are usually the games we struggle to get anything from.. hope I am proved wrong... enjoy your holiday. ps I cannot afford one!

The Algarve is one of MMs favourite jaunts,,, as I have seen him there a few times at Faro airport, in the Gatwick queue on his way home !! so it is no surprise that it is the chosen place for training , he knows the area well !!!!!!

Coming back to Barnsley will be a shock to the system!

Heavy Pitches, really? Who would have thunk it in early February in England!!

I'm astonished that this is the reason given for the trip, as they'll have to return to the Country to play on..............heavy pitches............surely this makes them the best thing to practice on!?!!?

If the club said it's a team bonding break to lift morale etc etc I could completely understand that. As a man manager myself, I think it's a great idea at this stage of the season.............I just wish the club would be honest with the fans.

Oi Peter Morris, I'm no 'Onda man (only one Honda in 35 years riding)!

Mind, I do like Hogster putting MM on a wet dream - TC in the side car maybe!
