Sammon: A Move Worth Waiting For Tuesday, 19th Aug 2014 06:00 Town new boy Conor Sammon has revealed his loan move from Derby did not happen overnight but believes it will prove worth the wait. Sammon said: “I’d heard a few things, probably about a month, maybe two months ago, something like that, which was exciting for me because after last season I knew I had to go out and play games. “It was important for me that I went to the right club as well and Ipswich ticked all the boxes. It’s a very big club and obviously they had a great season last year when they were just outside the play-offs. “You can tell it’s a club that’s really trying to build on that success of last year. The manager has got great experience in the league and he’s got great experience in management. He is someone that I was really excited at working with — him and TC as well — and from the first few days of training with them it has been really enjoyable for me.” Sammon, who is contracted to the Rams until the summer of 2016, played no part in Derby’s opening fixtures and last season he was restricted to just three starts and 34 substitute appearances in the Championship, scoring twice. Asked if he saw his future away from the iPro Stadium he admitted: “Yes, I think so. From when the new manager [Steve McClaren] came in I didn’t play an awful lot of games. I was coming on as an impact kind of sub, which was frustrating, especially when I played so much the year before. “I’m at the age that I want to be playing week in, week out, and really testing myself against top teams. So, yes, coming here is a great opportunity for me to do well here, train hard, hopefully impress the management staff and the players, and who knows what the future holds? “Football is very strange, the way things happen, so I’ll just take it one day and one game at the time and hopefully that will lead to a very successful long period here.” Photo: ITFC
