No Mings Palace Move - Report
Monday, 1st Sep 2014 12:33

Crystal Palace may have ended their interest in Blues left-back Tyrone Mings, according to South London sources. The 21-year-old was being eyed by the Eagles with new manager Neil Warnock keen to add to his left-sided options.

Warnock is close to adding Tottenham left-back Zeki Fryers to his squad but is also understood to have been interested in bringing in Mings.

However, the Croydon Advertiser's Palace reporter has tweeted that the proposed switch now “could be off”.

The Eagles are also claimed to have renewed their January interest in Blues striker David McGoldrick, according to one of this morning’s national newspapers.

Twitter rumours claim Palace striker Glenn Murray could be part of a £5 million plus player deal, however, the 30-year-old has been tipped for a £1.5 million switch to Reading.

Palace are also reported to have made an enquiry regarding Leicester’s Chris Wood, who watched Town’s game at Derby on Saturday, leading to inevitable speculation that the New Zealand international could be a Town target if McGoldrick were to move on.

Yesterday’s second slightly increased Foxes bid for the 26-year-old frontman - a figure of £7 million has been reported - is understood to have been turned down but talks are believed to be continuing.

Blues owner Marcus Evans is said to be holding out for £8 million for last season’s 16-goal top scorer, while the Premier League side are reported to have indicated that they are looking at alternative additions to their strike force and the Leicester Mercury believes the deal is now "unlikely" to go through.

JWM - What am i deluded about? Evans did pay off £30 million. Some Town fans choose to forget that. I would love to see them cruise to the Premiership but we are still in debt and guarantee we wont be spending much, if any, cash on players.

As much as I would like for us to sign players on a permanent basis, you have to be realistic as well. We play in the Championship and in many ways it's the players market after Bosman. There are only a few clubs who are "signing" clubs and lots of clubs who loan players from them.
I mean AC Milan sign Fernando Torres on loan, Manchester United sign Falcao on loan, Atletico Madrid had Courtios last season on loan as did Everton who had Lukaku on loan (28 million pounds this year), Palace has Zaha on loan, Liverpool has Manquillo on loan, West Ham have Carl Jenkinson och Alex Song on loan, Victor Moses is at Stoke on loan and Ryan Bertrand is at Southampton on loan.
I would love to have any of them at Ipswich.
A seasonlong loan is equal to a one year contract in my eyes and I think there is a huge difference between a shortterm loan with a recall clause and a seasonlong loan.

Quite a deal of sense now being opined on here. Forget the headine cash sums being paid as it is now all about MM bringing in out of contract players and paying them a decent wage (that we rightly never know anything about). Christophe Berra is the classic example. Let's not get locked into "MM must have £Xm to spend on players" as it can be irrelevant. MM's track record is superb (how much did we pay for McGoldrick, remind me?). Let's trust him to get it right. Incidentally, very impressed with Bishop's Championship debut on Saturday - very encouraging. Come on you Blues!

I think we should now take whatever Leicester are offering for Didsy's sake, IMO he has earned that from us. As somebody else said, how would you feel about being able to live in your own home and earn two or three times your current wage. If this now falls through I do not think his heart will be fully with Ipswich Town, remember this is his job.

Moscow Blue Although I agree with your post you must remember that for every David McGoldrick there is also a Frank Nouble!

If and this is a BIG IF, MM was allowed the funds then i think we should make the deal. Without doubt Mcgoldrick is our most talented player and currently the only player who possesses creativity in our squad, however 8 million is a ridiculous sum of money for a player who has had one good season and just come back from a long term injury.

If and once again.. A BIG IF the bid is around 8 million then we could add a top quality striker with atleast 2 midfielders who could bring flare to our team.

Would absolute love palace to come forward with an offer as hopefully Williams or Murray could be part of a deal. We all know what Williams can do and Murray is a prolific championship striker.

As much as I love Mcoldrick and it would be good to see him stay, a part of me hope a deal goes through as it seems this is the only way MM would have any chance of having some serious money to spend.

£8m 0r even £7m is great money and we really should accept and move on----problem is because we have stalled gives us little or no time to find adequate replacements.Mind you, having played our best half of football this season at Derby and with Teddy Bishop, Bru and the Mings/Henshall axis looking really promising is not all doom and gloom.I actually left Pride Park ( OK now Ipro) with pride on Saturday and perhaps MM is stumbling towards his best team----same finishing back four then just the goalkeeper to sort!!

@Pragmaticblue - McGoldrick is under contract until 2016 (we have a year option) to extend it from this summer's expiry date that he has no control over

Makes you wonder if there was anything in it in the first place - probably a wannabe journalist walking past the locker room at Selhurst Park heard one staff member to another saying that young boy who plays left back for Ipswich isn't bad! and at an earlier date last week the same pair over a cup of tea were heard mentioning Smithy as well.

What's the bets come 11pm tonight nothing happens!

JWM - remind me how much we paid for big Frank. I despair of him at times but you should have heard the cheer he got when he came on last Saturday.
