McCarthy: Taylor Never Showed Enough at Town
Friday, 5th Sep 2014 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says Blues striker Paul Taylor never showed the type of form which is winning him rave reviews at loan club Rotherham United while with Town. The 26-year-old joined the South Yorkshire side three weeks ago and has impressed in his four games for the Millers.

Following their recent 1-0 win at Millwall, in which Taylor created the winning goal, Rotherham boss Steve Evans told their official site: “He’s been terrific every day I’ve seen him, he was at Peterborough, which is why he went for £1.5 million to Ipswich Town.”

He added: “Paul’s a player we’ve always liked and we convinced him to come here and he was excellent [at Millwall].”

McCarthy says he’s aware that Taylor has his fans but says the summer of 2012 signing from Posh didn’t show that sort of form when in his Town side.

“He’s there until January sometime,” McCarthy said. “I know there are a lot of people who have got a really good feel for Paul Taylor, there’s nothing I can do about that.

“I haven’t seen it in my team, whenever he’s played, whether he’s started or gone on as a sub. If I had I wouldn’t have let him go.

“Maybe however he’s playing at Rotherham suits him. I think he played wide on the left against Millwall.

“I don’t know how many glowing reports he’s getting but good luck to him because he’s still our player when all’s said and done.”

Taylor is joined at the New York Stadium by fellow loanee Anthony Wordsworth, while ex-Blues loan duo Paul Green and Frazer Richardson joined the Millers in the summer, as did keeper Scott Loach after settling his contract at Portman Road.

The Liverpudlian, who scored only one goal in nine starts and 16 sub appearances for the Blues and is yet to net for the Millers, is out of contract at the end of the season.

Every time I saw him play I thought he deserved a longer run in the team...I hope he is allowed to play against us, so he can make Mick look a little stupid. I still haven't got over JET leaving. If TC is so good as Mick claims then they would have taught him consistency to go with his undoubted talent

Yeah JET what a player. Keeps the bench warm at Bristol City a treat!

WashbrookBlue - I hear the distinctive "ping" of a nail being hit firmly on the head! Well said Sir. It is never helpful for a manager to prove beyond all doubt that he can lack judgement in some situations. This is hurting you, Mick.

If Messi played for us, Mick would send him out on loan because he didn't track back and "run around enough". Taylor's better than Hunt or Tabb but he doesn't fit MM's mission to bore us into total submission. Who will rid me of this tactical dinosaur?

Henshall or Taylor on the left?

Exactly LordMamu. Why the debate on here? Everyone can see Taylor's quality. Will play well at other clubs, but not here because of McCarthy and his out of date philosophy. Unfortunately we are stuck with this idiot for a long time yet- and much more boring SHI* to come yet folks..Rotherham just beat Millwall away. Will we manage to beat them at home???

No problem lets replace him with a bald carthorse journeyman 10 years too old to play for our U21s

at least he scored when he came on for the last game...Seems like the manager Steve Cotterill has gone the way of MM

Kirbmeister...besides the wonderful McGoldrick do we have a player capable of scoring 21 goals and providing 9 assists that JET did last season? Yes it was a division down, but that's pretty good going for an inconsitent player

Steve Cotterill when he still liked him....

- Cotterill was quick to praise the former Arsenal youngster for his contribution, admitting he has been surprised by his attitude.

“He's been first class and is a lovely boy,” the manager continued. “He's been nothing like you think he might be.

“At times he can stroll around and look like he can be a bit of an enigma, but all of a sudden he can pick up the ball, run 40 yards with it and it'll end up in the top corner.

“He's very much a team player, but if we're thinking he needs to be running around all over the pitch — I don't think he's capable of doing that. No matter how fit you get him, I don't know his DNA allows him to do that."

......... another helping of bull**** from MM - why doesn't he admit that if he doesn't like you - you don't play for him, however good you are.

Like it, or not, Taylor is a class act at this level.

If his attitude was suspect - a good Man Manager would be able to sort that - with 'appropriate' tact and people skills.

..... no one, even the (in Mick we Trust) people - will relish Taylor playing against us.

Hope he does play, and proves his point to all.

afcfee_I think you are a bit deluded. It looks like Rotheram have ambitions to get somewhere & play decent football. This ridiculous statement enforces my opinion of MM, ie he is an arrogant prxck with absolutely no integrity & a pretty useless coach

Kirbmeister Jet had a hell of a season last year and ive seen the plenty of L1 footie and there are good players and teams at that level.
His place has been taken by wilbraham playing up with baldock but either of those players would walk into our team.
I would have kept JET and there is no way in a month of sundays anderson is a better player

ArnieM are Ipswich really a bigger club than Rotheram? Certainly don't play as good football as Rthm, lack ambition to entertain & have a moron for a manager

johnysuave-what MM likes are the sychophants he plays week in, week out, not people with a few brain cells & ability

Nearly 100 posts moaning that Taylor has moved on, despite having a poor reputation wherever he has been and hardly being well behaved since joining us. Yet, big Frank scores and is playing well for coventry tonight and few comments. Sums it up. Taylor is overrated.

Also believe Taylor fits into the Rotherham ethic of playing more attack minded football from midfield, be interesting to see if we have any influential midfielders who can play creative football and sustain continuous appearances under McCarthy's management (other than Williams).
Interesting to note when McCarthy came in as manager Edwards was probably our most consistent player to that point in midfield when it came to passing and crossing but he was soon frozen out...without much of a noise on this website, did he really go from being a fairly sound player to being not good enough for the starting 11 in a couple of months? people say McCarthy gets the best out of players but I'm not so sure when it comes to midfielders or attackers.

Mick, that's because you rarely gave him a start. 4 starts is almost half of what he got here in 2 years. I don't know what he is like as a person but what I saw on the pitch I liked more than not. Equalising goal away against Blackpool & a really good home performance against Blackburn spring to mind - then dropped without reason for the following match!! The only player we had in the squad with direct running, with the ball..

PT was never a team player. He played for himself. OK he has talent and it showed on some of the occasions he had game time here. But my assessment of his contribution to our performances is in the underwhelmed quarter. I really expected more from a £1 million plus player. I see a lot of games and good players usually stand out. Unfortunately IMO PT was never a stand out player. I realise that he has many supporters on here and has become one of the sticks to beat MM with. But if it comes to a choice, I back the manager ahead of a player who has not exactly pulled up trees for this club.
