McCarthy: Taylor Never Showed Enough at Town
Friday, 5th Sep 2014 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says Blues striker Paul Taylor never showed the type of form which is winning him rave reviews at loan club Rotherham United while with Town. The 26-year-old joined the South Yorkshire side three weeks ago and has impressed in his four games for the Millers.

Following their recent 1-0 win at Millwall, in which Taylor created the winning goal, Rotherham boss Steve Evans told their official site: “He’s been terrific every day I’ve seen him, he was at Peterborough, which is why he went for £1.5 million to Ipswich Town.”

He added: “Paul’s a player we’ve always liked and we convinced him to come here and he was excellent [at Millwall].”

McCarthy says he’s aware that Taylor has his fans but says the summer of 2012 signing from Posh didn’t show that sort of form when in his Town side.

“He’s there until January sometime,” McCarthy said. “I know there are a lot of people who have got a really good feel for Paul Taylor, there’s nothing I can do about that.

“I haven’t seen it in my team, whenever he’s played, whether he’s started or gone on as a sub. If I had I wouldn’t have let him go.

“Maybe however he’s playing at Rotherham suits him. I think he played wide on the left against Millwall.

“I don’t know how many glowing reports he’s getting but good luck to him because he’s still our player when all’s said and done.”

Taylor is joined at the New York Stadium by fellow loanee Anthony Wordsworth, while ex-Blues loan duo Paul Green and Frazer Richardson joined the Millers in the summer, as did keeper Scott Loach after settling his contract at Portman Road.

The Liverpudlian, who scored only one goal in nine starts and 16 sub appearances for the Blues and is yet to net for the Millers, is out of contract at the end of the season.

It's no surprise as the ball was flying over his head most of the time! When he did shine and supporters made him MOM he still wasn't picked for next game. If we get Williams then perhaps we'll fell that there is some hope of playing attacking football and keep possession in midfield.

Judging by Mick's comments he's having to eat a sizable portion of humble pie. Nice little dig in the ribs from Steve Evans too!

There is probably nothing exciting in Mick's mediocre world, he comes home from a boring day's training session, practicing corners and freekicks, to his magnolia covered walls. Kisses his average looking wife, cracks open a can of John Smiths and settles into his beige DFS sofa just in time for Coronation Street.

McCarthy looks at his favourites Hunt, Scuse, Tabb etc. and see mostly their Virtues and none of their many faults, He looks at Taylor and only sees his faults and none of his virtues.
That is one huge flaw in the McCarthy character and one that he will never be a big enough man to rectify.

@ Popeye - Cast your mind back to Martijn Reuser, arguably one of the most 'flair' players we have had at this club over the past 15 years, he did alright for himself. Jimmy Bullard's influence kept us in the league and earned him payer of the year despite only playing half the season!

I'm not saying Taylor is in their league but I'm sure the likes of Messi, Hazard, C Ronaldo, etc. have frustrated their respective managers at times. The point being, THEY ARE ALL MATCH WINNERS, apart from David McGoldrick, where are our match winners?

typical clouded judgement ... the bloke has been pretty poor for us and its obvious his big time charlie attitude just wont cut it with MM .... cya Taylor it hasnt been a pleasure.

Relax, he's still our player.

we signed him as a striker correct? how many goals has he scored for us? how many goals did he provide an assist for? people giving him MOM is just because they're not fans of Mick's style (hey i'm not either) and think Taylor offers something different. He does, but he offers no end product and is clearly a trouble maker too (hence his arrest).
So bored of people thinking Taylor is the answer. Move on people, he won't be with us much longer and the sooner we can get his wages off the books and get someone far more effective in the better

I have seen precious little of Taylor, living in Sweden and being restricted to the few trips to Portman Road and the times they show Ipswich on Swedish television. I know there are a lot of posters here who thinks he should be in the game every day of the week. From what I have seen of him - and that is every time I have seen him play - he is the kind of player who tries to do everything for himself. He tries to make it on his own all the time, and out of the many times he tries, he succeeds once or twice, and that's what most people remember. But he is not a teamplayer on the picth. Outside of the pitch... well, I won't comment on that.
If he is our topearner, the sooner he is off the better. His will never be a great player for us.
Cue the negavtive responses...

Taylor has never played THAT well for us. The way some people go on about him on here, you think he would give Messi a run for his money when he played for us.

He's history. End of. Wish him all the best at Rotherham, but there is no place for him here. MM will know best but clearly the whole package was wrong for him as manager of ITFC. If we can't trust the judgement of the manager where do do go.

For god sake, he's not even that good, he wasn't even that good when he played but he still gets the messiah treatment from everyone here and most are now doing it just to spite McCarthy. Grow up and move on.

Didn't fit hoof ball. However, would fit the way we played at Derby.

If we start playing passing, attacking football: Taylor could come into his own.

Rotherham are lucky to have him.

Ahh the same old boring comments on the same boring old topic of mr Paul Taylor, can't wait til he leaves for good so this repetitive moaning from people about how good he is will stop. Face it people MM doesn't like him and he's not going to play for us. Highly over rated player and a bad egg, I wish him well but don't want him here

for best outcome, Taylor would have required a guide rather than a judge and MM could only provide the latter.

Kirbmeister added 12:04 - Sep 5
Trust me it's nothing to do with his football ability. MM just doesn't like him. Like when he had a broken foot but was still fit enough to go to a club and assault someone. He won't set the world alight at Rotherham. Forget him.

I think MM needs to ask himself why Paul Taylor never showed good form for Town!!!!!

Popeye - nail on the head stuff kiddo!
Taylor, JET, etc etc. Flavour of the month and spectacular success stories at lesser clubs.
It's hardly like Gerard Pique leaving Man U to prove Fergie wrong at Barca!
The MM bashers all clutching at straws as usual.
The fact remains, we would be playing in League 1 now (or possible worse!) only for MM. He inherited an absolute mess of a squad, of a club, and the legacy of failure left after the Dark Lord and Big Fat Pauly Jewell. There was, and still is, no quick fix, no magic wand. Magic Wands cost money. And we don't have any. So for now MM is working on scraps, and yet we still compete and we still have hope.

So I assume if Nouble has a couple a couple of decent games for Coventry you'll all be up in arms about his departure, will you????

Surco72 added 13:16 - Sep 5
bohslegend ... it still remains fact that MM,s most successful period of results and points per game was with the absolute mess of a squad he inherited rather than the squad he has assembled .
And as repeatedly stated teaching passing ,quick movement football on the floor does not take money or magic wands it takes coaching and the ability to get the best out of your players

Paul Taylor probably isn't the saviour of ITFC as many on here have already pointed out but given the chance to play he is a lot better and more entertaining than some of the MM favourites. MM may well have saved us but he won't get us promoted with his style of play.
All the successful clubs large and small play a passing game, keeping possession for long periods. Next time you are at Portman Road count the number of passes we make before Smith or Berra have no option but to hoof the ball up the pitch - I do it every match and can't remember the last time I got to double figures.

Paul Taylor is a player with natural skills and not like of most of Mick McCarthy's players, brainwashed into submission. I agree with the vast majority of fans here and that is that he was poorly treated by Mick The Man - simply because he stood on his own two feet and was not intimidated by the gritty Yorkshire man, who like a fool is as stubborn as a mule and won't accept that he got this one wrong.

so does jay tabb or gerkin or skuse show this great form micks looking for.
taylor cant stay as mick does not like him and does not fit into a defensive 442 long ball game.
It is dreadful under mick dire dire football kick and rush-I hate it and now we are getting rid of footballs and keeping big lumps and scrappers.
I think he lost it totally in the season opener when instead of playing marriot he played an unfit banjer who could not even last a half and has now brought in Sammon with his dismal scoring record and shipped jack out.
Taylor should have stayed and we should have binned the old dinosaur who is ripe for retirement

Absolute rubbish from MM. Just be honest and say you don't like him. Slide can play awful game after game and not a word. Nouble was preferred!!!
