McCarthy: Taylor Never Showed Enough at Town
Friday, 5th Sep 2014 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says Blues striker Paul Taylor never showed the type of form which is winning him rave reviews at loan club Rotherham United while with Town. The 26-year-old joined the South Yorkshire side three weeks ago and has impressed in his four games for the Millers.

Following their recent 1-0 win at Millwall, in which Taylor created the winning goal, Rotherham boss Steve Evans told their official site: “He’s been terrific every day I’ve seen him, he was at Peterborough, which is why he went for £1.5 million to Ipswich Town.”

He added: “Paul’s a player we’ve always liked and we convinced him to come here and he was excellent [at Millwall].”

McCarthy says he’s aware that Taylor has his fans but says the summer of 2012 signing from Posh didn’t show that sort of form when in his Town side.

“He’s there until January sometime,” McCarthy said. “I know there are a lot of people who have got a really good feel for Paul Taylor, there’s nothing I can do about that.

“I haven’t seen it in my team, whenever he’s played, whether he’s started or gone on as a sub. If I had I wouldn’t have let him go.

“Maybe however he’s playing at Rotherham suits him. I think he played wide on the left against Millwall.

“I don’t know how many glowing reports he’s getting but good luck to him because he’s still our player when all’s said and done.”

Taylor is joined at the New York Stadium by fellow loanee Anthony Wordsworth, while ex-Blues loan duo Paul Green and Frazer Richardson joined the Millers in the summer, as did keeper Scott Loach after settling his contract at Portman Road.

The Liverpudlian, who scored only one goal in nine starts and 16 sub appearances for the Blues and is yet to net for the Millers, is out of contract at the end of the season.

Completely behind MM with this one... I actually think he's being kind to Taylor by saying what hes said. The reality is (and a few of you have also noted this) he was never a stand out player, he was costing the club way too much money on wages and actually is a thoroughly unpleasant individual and most likely disliked by the rest of the team. Thats why MM got shot of him. If anybody should be blamed for Paul Taylor (other than the man himself) you need look no further than Paul Jewell. We're well shot of him!
