Berra Signs New Deal
Friday, 12th Sep 2014 10:22

Centre-half Christophe Berra has signed a new three-year deal with the Blues. The new contract, which has been under discussion for the last couple of months, sees the Scotland international, last season’s Player of the Year, tied to Town until June 2017.

“I’m delighted to see Christophe commit to a new contract here,” boss Mick McCarthy told the club site.

“It’s great news for Ipswich Town, as he’s been absolutely fantastic for us since he first walked through the door. It’s superb news.”

The 29-year-old, whose previous terms were up next June, joined the Blues on a free transfer in the summer of 2013 having left Wolves.

Yes very good news...really surprised no Premiership club has been 'sniffing' after him.

Despite what some would say I think there are quite a lot of positives coming out of PR recently. We are signing young attacking players ( Henshall and Stewart), getting our best players and promising youngsters signed up, and have turned down almost 10 million in the window.
Just need a bit more creativity and an upturn in results. COYB

Fantastic news. IMO Mick's best signing. And now another great piece of management in renewing his contract.
One less stick for the haters to beat MM with.

In Mick We Trust!

@TimmyH and joepublic... I'm not a budgie lover, i'm a Town fan, lived here all my life. I'm just realistic in the clubs ambitions, and with the current running of the club, I stand by my name 'Never going up'

Was getting worried on the silence of a new contract so mightily relieved Christophe has pledged himself to the Club. He has been in my opinion a top signing and will no doubt have been given a much improved deal. Cresswell money being reinvested and although not a new signing, it is equally if not more important to retain our best players.

Yeah, the silence was beginning to worry me as well!! Tomorrows team selection is so important and will giive us a big clue as to the ambition of the manager.Should be the Bartman in goal and same defence we finished with at Derby---Teddy and Bru and Henshall also all in-----lets wait and see!!-

NGU- Your names fair enough but the suggestion that Berra is overathed is somewhat groundless. Rock solid centre half that score goals, what else would you like him to do? Turn water into wine perhaps?

Brilliant news as Berra has got to be up there as one of the best centre backs in the championship. Now to tie down chambers on a longer contract!!! FIST PUMP!!!
