Bru Signs New Deal
Tuesday, 20th Jan 2015 13:41

Midfielder Kevin Bru has signed a new contract until 2018 with an option for a further season.

“Kevin Bru’s signed a new contract," manager Mick McCarthy said. "It’s been done for quite a while, I think he’s just signed it today. I’m delighted, he’s been excellent.

Mauritius international Bru, 26, joined the Blues initially on trial in the summer having left Levski Sofia and did enough to win a deal until the end of the season with an option for a further year.

McCarthy says Bru's success illustrates the quality that can come in on trial: "We’re taking them on Bosmans and free transfers, sometimes ragamuffins come in off the street and we take a look at them and I think it’s important that we do.

“I sometimes think it's case of nothing ventured, nothing gained. I get agents saying ‘Will you have a look at him’ and I will take a look at them unless I’ve got players in those areas and I’ll tell them straight away whether they’re worth keeping for the following day and a bit more.

“We took two of them, Balint Bajner [who subsequently joined Notts County] and Kevin Bru. And Balint’s contributed. He contributed in the first game because we won.

"He contributed at Birmingham because he ended up winning the ball and we crossed and we scored the equaliser.

“I take the positives out of all of them, but Kevin Bru's’s been different class. He’s been outstanding and just got better and better.

“But he was at [the French national football centre] at Clairefontaine as a kid. He’s got ability, him. They don’t out them in there if they’ve been rubbish.”

This is great news, the fact he signed such a long contract shows what MM and the club thinks of him, but also what he thinks of the club. Commitment and dedication for the future on both ends, I like what I'm seeing!

This is great news, Bru has grown game by game this season, his composure on the ball is great to see, well worthy of a new contract. "BRUUUUUUUUUUUU!" (or as my wife recently said when he came on as a sub, "Why are they booing him?!?!") 😂⚽️😂⚽️

Saw him against Crawley at the start of the season and he was dreadful. Off the pace, couldn't pass, couldn't tackle and looked out of his depth against a league 1 team but he's almost unrecognisable now (unlike Banjo who stills looks as bad as he did then). Always happy to be proved wrong.

Whoops downvoted by accident, mow. It is a shame about Badger, he looks strong and a good header of the ball, but seems to foul too much when trying to get the bal is Soton is anything to go by. Bru is a revelation though.

I was wondering how Mow the lawn got 2 minuses! I thought exactly the same early on, i.e. this lad ain't going to make the grade. I also thought he wouldn't fancy it on a cold winter's night up north. Howeevr, he has been excellent and I am also delighted to be proved wrong, because he is a type of player we don't have.
The lenght of the contract is interesting - 3 years with an option of an extra year, an bigger money clearly. This for a team that harbours a strong desire & maybe even an expectation of playing Premiership football during most of that time. Quite an endorsement of his abilities.

Life is so cruell! Reading Mick's comments I could get a trial at Playford Rd tomorrow as Ragamufins would be welcome but I know I am not good enough. I couldn't get a trial under PJ but know I was good enough for his team even though I am 47 and enjoy pies.

Nothing like a kick in the teeth!

I did actually ask whether I could have a trial after the ragamuffin comment but Mick pretended not to hear.

Living in Sweden I don't have a chance to see the team nearly as much as I would like to, but every time I have seen Bru, he has been a classact. Very pleased to see this deal being done.
Really looking forward to the rest of the season, staring against Brighton. Tough game, but definitely a possible three points.

What a pleasure it is to have a manager who gets things done with no fuss or speculation. Bru has been excellent recently and getting him for nothing and now on a long contract has been brilliant business for the Club and for the player. Should not forget how the administration and deals dealt with by the Club have gone so smoothly since MM arrived.

Fantastic news. We have 3 quality centre midfielders in Bru, Bishop and Skuse. I think are squad will look stronger and bigger come the end of January.

The way business is being done now by Evans, Milne and McCarthy takes the club back to doing things the Ipswich way as practised by the Cobbolds and Sir Bobby. No silly transfer speculation, players quietly scouted and then signed up without fuss or speculation. Players who deserve it getting long contracts. Great team spirit, everybody happy.
The management team are being so professional and are surely building a squad, not only to achieve promotion, but to sustain a Premiership place. What a total turnaround from the days of Clegg and Keane when contracts were allowed to run down unless you were actually paid to leave the club!!
All we need now to complete the Sir Bobby comparison is to find another Muhren and Thissen but all faith in Bishop and Bru. So good to be a Blue right now.

Great news about Kevin 'Irn' Bru! Been another typical Mick find.

Not sure if anyone has seen the free sports app 'My Sports Diary' but you can download the Ipswich fixtures to your mobile for free!

First time I saw him he reminded me of Pablo.....then he ran back and tackled, closed someone down, tracked back and spent the game working.

Nothing like Pablo, thank god!

One thing I admire from this management is how they don't let contract run down like we've had in the past. If Mick thinks a player is good enough he'll make sure they get the contract they deserve. No more just letting the contracts run down and the player leaves without a fee and the club loses out big style. Also helps the players morale knowing they have a stable workplace and salary well done Mick and his team
