Quiet Deadline Day Expected Monday, 2nd Feb 2015 06:00 The final day of the January transfer window looks set to pass quietly at Portman Road with little movement in either direction. Clubs have until 11pm this evening to add to their squads, although Football League sides can utilise the ‘emergency’ loan provision from a week’s time until the fourth Thursday in March.
Speaking on Friday, manager Mick McCarthy said no one would be moving on, aside perhaps from young players going out on loan to gain experience. Out-of-favour striker Paul Taylor may well join another club or perhaps have his contract settled.
In terms of additions, it's likely that 19-year-old former Shelbourne winger Dylan Connolly's move to the Blues will be confirmed.
Aside from that McCarthy has said he will look at using the loan system as and when required in the remaining months of the season.
Managing director Ian Milne told Saturday’s Life’s a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk that no deals were ongoing and that no bids had been received for the likes of Tyrone Mings, Teddy Bishop or Daryl Murphy during the window, despite plenty of media speculation.
“Nothing at all. I can look you in the eyes and say we’ve got nothing going on, it’s very quiet,” he said.
“I was talking to the owner Marcus Evans and he said there’s nothing, no interest and that’s how we want it to be.
“My personal feeling is that the closer it gets to the final day of the transfer window the less and less we’d want to do a deal anyway because we want this team [to stay together]. It’s business as usual.”
The Blues are challenging for promotion for the first time since Evans took over in December 2007 and Milne says the Blues owner is keen not to do anything which might hamper the team’s chances of going up.
“Marcus takes advice from Mick and there’s been no change from the last time we were talking all about this in the last transfer window. Why would we want to change it with this team, it’s got strength and depth.”

Cant understand why McCarthy and Evans so complacent about ITFC when there is best chance of going up for a decade.Money being spent by club less than in 80's Luka seems to think we cant compete with the clubs around us financially and that most of us are football illiterates. How has he arrived at this conclusion? Blueherts seems to think that by spending any money clubs are gambling and Essexnblue thinks because Bournemouth have Russian owners a dodgy deal is being done through Switzerland. JUST A FEW POINTS IN ANSWER TO THESE CONCLUSIONS. 1.When Mr Sheepshanks sold the Evans deal to us shareholders,he told us that it was to solve the then financial problems at ITFC. 2 Mr Evans company who the club debt is owed to is domiciled in Eire for tax purposes, and his personal tax is dealt with in some other tax haven,as a lot of rich people do,to save paying uk tax. 3 We used to hear a lot about FFP; the rules are being relaxed and sanctions hardly punitive;but all the clubs are still subject to it so why is it being ignored by everybody except us? 4 ITFC have won trophies and only Derby can compare in this respect, and ground size;so why does Mick big up clubs to players before kick off and always talk about grinding out results when we should be proud of our club. 5 Definitely needs to strengthen as by his own admission only have small squad;so should be a no brainer.

Well said. Evans will never get he's cash back without promotion. This is first year in donkey years we have chance, we get more injuries then what. Freshen it up as it has gone sour

"Why would we want to change it with this team, it's got strength and depth" So much depth we had a shortfall on the bench the other week. And without Murph we now have no target to punt it to and like it or not that's what we do. We have the best chance of promotion in years, we have blatant need to strengthen the squad but we are choosing not to. Why do I feel Evan's will regret sitting on his wallet at the end of the season?

Sensible and reasoned comment by Luka and others - No money to invest in squad - end of - There are no guarantees in Football - Yes you can splash £5m on Gray or even on Dorrans - Do I think MM and TC do not want afew more players - I am sure they are looking We cannot compete at the top end so the sooner people just realise that , the better - there is NO reason why we cannot go up - we are where we are on merit As for DMc - the injury has def affected his game - but he is still a player that only afew months back a prem side was willing to pay £8m for Just look at the last time we spent £1m plus on players ...eg Taylor , Martin ... McCormack went for stupid money to Fulham and he didnt rip it up We are not gonna be sucked in to some spending spree and nor should we Owners from overseas just need to move their money around from various 'offshore' accounts - ME runs a Business - tell me what business the owner of Bournemouth is in ? Just look at Derby and Bournemouth - This is why , FFP is a joke - so many 'owners' divulge nothing Hmm I wonder where the Russians made all their money ? Money hasnt really helped Forest ?

We talk of financial fair play, where have Bournemouth got £5 million from to offer Brum for their young lad?

£750k for Eoin Doyle - that looks good business ---------------------------------- Those Were the Days! I seem to remember that when we were in a similar position back in March 2000 Burley went out and bought a certain Marcus Stewart for £2.5 Million to see us over the line! Its great to see that we have made such huge progress since then.

when the clubs owner, the manager and the team don't match the fans ambitions maybe its time to give up supporting the whole mess

Where did wickham cash go? What about cresswell cash? There are some top players who wouldn't cost you much as in lower leagues. Why did we never go for bent? Ince? If we did get promoted would town splash the cash, prob not and this team not good enough. Pacey players like dos Santos we need urgently

Blueherts are you saying you don't trust MM to sign good players if he was given money to spend ? I cannot see Mick signing the kind of dross that Keane wasted money on . Where has the Cresswell money that we were told would be used on the playing squad gone , and the excuses of wages etc is rubbish as we have a smaller squad this year than last . How can we not compete spending wise with any top half sides in the championship including the likes of Brentford ?

Blueherts - for goodness sake what are you prattling on about? We are talking about playing football and a football club and all you are doing is rattling on about foreign oowners, etc. etc. Any idiot can look that rubbish up. We are trying to talk about Ipswich Town the club that I have supported all my life as have most people on here. We want football, real football, to be played by our team just as it was in Bobby Robson's time and he didn't go spewing money round he let that idiot at Notts Forest do that. BR got players together, trained them to his standard, hung on to them then invested very small amounts where he saw a special need. That is what we are asking for not who invests where or why. Who cares? Now come on you Blues and start fighting.
Essexnblue added 16:19 - Feb 2
Surco, how do you think we have been able to tie players down to long term contracts? In the past overpaid jokers have run contracts down and left on Bosmans or reduced fees and that caused uproar on here and with true fans. Chambers, Gerken, Berra, Murphy, Bishop, Smith, Mings and more have all signed extended contracts, that is the spine of the club and where the majority of the cash for cressy has gone, its not about today its the future outlay. I cannot remember so many players tied down, what does that tell you about the owner and MM?
Geoff added 16:21 - Feb 2
Evans back Mick now or this season is going to end in disappointment again, need to bring in another striker to back up Murphy.Chris Wood or someone alike.
Surco72 added 16:39 - Feb 2
Essexnblue .. The FFP looks at each season individually so that only covers the wages for this year taken into account not the future long contracts. That said if all wages are covered by the Cressy money and the players we have released whose wages are now gone then are we still losing over £8million a season ?
Essexnblue added 16:55 - Feb 2
Surco, look at the accounts and you will see the yearly debt is greater than that. I fully understand FFP and how it works. My point is that the money was used as an investment to keep the players that we have rather than gamble at bringing others in.

Whilst I agree that sometimes buying another player to push for promotion is a good thing for some clubs, in the case of the current ITFC team, the idea of spending massive amounts of money is ridiculous. The transfer policy of bosmans, out of favour players and up and coming players has done us very well so far. A lot of the team have been brought in on short term deals to prove their worth. If they're a good fit for the squad, MM offers them longer term deals, which the club is able to afford because they haven't spent squillions on transfer fees and wages on the Taylors and Chopras of this world. Our current position, 3 points off the top is testament to the hard work that has been put into building a competitive championship squad. Some of you seem to have forgotten that ME has backed MM to the tune of £10m odd in the last transfer window by allowing him to keep his most coveted players. The current blip is just that - a blip! Have a bit of faith you silly whingy moaners.
PJH added 16:57 - Feb 2
It seems to me that some of the critics of Marcus Evans on here must owe fortunes to their credit card company or to loan sharks. If they run their lives the way that they suggest he should run ITFC, they must constantly be buying things that they cannot afford with money they have not got. His personal wealth is not relevant, what is relevant is ITFC debt of £87 million or whatever it is and with gates still very low for a club doing so well.

BillnBlue - I knew I would get some minuses - and , like you , I remember the days of SBR and more recently late 1990s but the football landscape has changed and we are not a Top tier team nor have been for 13 years - so the point about foriegn owners forcing the valauation of certain players up is valid.People are saying why are we not investing in this player or that player - but like you and I am sure most of the 'SBR footballing era' we either unearth the talent eg Bishop or we go hunting in lower leagues - If Doyle of Chesterfield has gone to Cardiff for £750k that is a steal and surely we could have punted that ? An area we need reinforcing and a player who is scoring for less than £1m I trust MM and TC to unearth players - as they have done on a shoestring The days of SBR and Cobbld sharing one bottle of red if we won and two if we lost is . I am afraid , long gone - Money and the lunatics have taken over the asulym

I'm sure we can spend money if the right player is available, the reason is Mings (and maybe Bishop) will be in the Premier League next season - with or without us!! In other words we will get a load of money at the end of this season one way or another! The biggest problem with making a big signing is they would demand a proportionate wage and that may then upset the morale of the squad (i.e. 1 or 2 players earning 2x 3x the rest) I would like us to get a creative midfielder in i.e. Williams or Lingaard, and also believe we need a targetman as backup for Murphy. If we do get loans they would be better done today so they're not limited to the 30 day emergency loan.

....... the writing is on the wall - the true definition of ambition within our Club is 'Championship - Mid Table Mediocrity' .......... pointless even the 'most pessimistic' of us denying it. Even if we did achieve the dream of returning to the Premiership, by default I guess it would have to be on recent style and performance - with MM's style of 'predominantly hoofball' we would be in for a mauling every week. Sorry Guy's and Gal's - but that's the reality of it all.
