Premier League Trio Linked With Murphy
Sunday, 21st Jun 2015 10:37

Premier League trio Leicester, West Brom and Norwich are the latest clubs reported to be keen on Town’s 27-goal Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy.

According to the Daily Star Sunday, all three are looking to sign the 32-year-old, who the paper rates at £3 million.

Murphy has been the subject of much speculation since the end of the season with Stoke manager Mark Hughes also understood to be weighing up making a move.

Last week, Championship Middlesbrough were claimed to have had a £2.5 million offer turned down, while Cardiff were reported to have him at the top of their summer wish-list.

Newly-relegated Burnley and QPR as well as Fulham have also been mentioned in connection with the Waterford-born frontman, along with the other demoted former Premier League team Hull City, who were previously linked in January.

Manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said that they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, while Murphy has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of leaving Town as he and his family are settled in Suffolk.

Whether that would change should any of the reportedly interested Premier League clubs firm up their interest remains to be seen.

The former Waterford, Sunderland and Celtic frontman signed a new contract with Town last July, which has another year left to run with the Blues having an option to extend it for a further season.

Would not blame him if he did move on for the right fee x brilliant player good luck even if he went to Norwich , you couldn't stop him and the club would do the deal

I was thinking the same BlueHerts. I like many, really like Murph & don't want to see him go but if we get £5M for him, it's superb for his age & then get in the younger Woods, who could be just as good when fit. He was crashing them in for Millwall two years ago.

How many of these nonsense stories get printed each close season and still folk get themselves all worked up about them ? Given it is some crappy rag spouting it you would think folk would know better. More so now sky as added it's voice. Rather like having Ken Dodd auditing Lester Pigott's tax returns

Wouldn't worry about this story.

Murphy is an essential player for us next season. Without him we would have to completely change the way we play our game, and I cannot see that happening.

We should remain patient for our new signings. MM will get the right people in. Yes, we've lost a fair few players but we have plenty of time to get 7/8 players in. Hopefully Stewart and Henshall will be ready to start the new season and Connolly and Mcdonnell will feel like new signings.

Murphy is going to be connected with a lot of clubs.
the way this club is run, if we want new players we sell for the funds, to be quite honest Murphy is about 1 of the three players only that could command a fee,

Unfortunately the wheeling and dealing in players is all part of the game. Its a business and businesses need to maximise returns on assets. It doesn't matter whether Murphs was our best player last year or whether fans adore him. If its good business, its good business and it will happen.

Besides we all know how fickle fans are and how those that are praising him now will be jeering him if has failed to score 6 games into next season.

Who knows, MM may be negotiating deals to bring Bamford here from Chelsea or Lambert from Liverpool, (OK OK but I can dream can't I) then Murphs may spend most of next season on the bench. The merry go round of players coming and going is part and parcel of the game. Embrace it and enjoy it and remember... Stay Calm until it happens.

We don't need to sell. It's not as if he is looking to go. OK if he gets an outrageous offer from a Prem club it will be difficult for us to keep him as it would be for him to turn the offer down. But let's not forget that he is under contract and notionally at least we are in the best position. Of course we could sell but IMO that would be madness. We need talent more than money.

> I hope not but it is his call<
>as it would be for him to turn the offer down<

Not true - he is under contract to ITFC, not the other way round. ITFC doesn't have to accept any offer.
