Mings £8m Exit and Fraser Loan Confirmed
Friday, 26th Jun 2015 16:03

Town and AFC Bournemouth have confirmed that Blues left-back Tyrone Mings has joined the Cherries in a deal worth an initial £8 million - potentially rising to £10 million - with winger Ryan Fraser moving in the opposite direction on a season-long loan. Mings, 22, has signed a four-year contract at Dean Court.

TWTD understands that in addition to the initial £8 million - the majority of which will be paid up front and the rest in instalments - the overall fee could ultimately increase to £10 million once top-up clauses - likely to relate to appearances and future international recognition - are triggered. The deal also includes a sell-on.

Mings told Bournemouth's Cherries Player that working with manager Eddie Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall will help him to progress as a player: “I’m looking forward to learning from the manager’s ideas.

“They will be different to what I’m used to but that can only be a good thing. I’m here to develop and learn as much as possible."

He added: “The team’s style was different to anyone else’s in the league. That probably goes back to how in-depth the manager is with everything he does and the group of players he has.

“They can pull off what he wants them to do — they are well organised and play good football as everyone saw last season.

“The manager has spoken to me about it and it may be a culture shock to what I was used to.

“It wasn’t as easy on the eye I guess, but I worked over 46 games and got Ipswich into the play-offs.

“To learn off Eddie and Jason though is something I’m really looking forward to.”

Howe believes he is buying someone with a big future: “We are signing a player of huge potential.

“We believe he has everything required to be a success in the Premier League.

“He’s a good age as well and I think there’s a lot of scope for him to improve.

“He’s been linked with Premier League clubs for a long time now and is very highly regarded for his performances for Ipswich. Albeit for a short period of time, he has shown great promise.

“He fits the mould we are looking for — young, progressive, ambitious and wants to improve.

“Hopefully it will be a successful period for us coming up and he can be a big part of that.”

Bournemouth made their bid for the Blues’ £10,000 December 2012 signing from non-league Chippenham on Wednesday with Mings making the trip down to the south coast for talks later that evening before undergoing a medical and agreeing terms yesterday.

In total, Mings, who was watched regularly by scouts from most Premier League clubs, including the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea last season, made 49 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.

Earlier in the summer, Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans both said that they were determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, however, with the Blues' spending power again limited by the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules, selling a player for a big fee will give McCarthy far greater scope as he looks to strengthen ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

Fraser, who has represented Scotland at U19 and U21 levels, started his career with hometown club Aberdeen before joining the Cherries in a £400,000 deal in January 2013.

Last season the 5ft 4in tall midfielder - who is right-footed but has tended to operate more often on the left - made 11 starts and 16 sub appearances and scored two goals as Bournemouth won the Championship title.

He is currently contracted until the end of June 2016 but the Cherries are expected to offer him new terms in the near future. Given his age, even if he doesn’t sign that deal and joins another club on a permanent basis next summer, compensation would be due to Bournemouth.

As with all season-long loans there is no recall provision, however, Town would have the option to end the loan early in January if they wish to do so.

The Blues are also expected to complete the signing of Cherries striker Brett Pitman in a separate deal this afternoon, while Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to join up with the club for the start of pre-season training on Monday with the paperwork relating to his season-loan loan all but done.

Good luck Tyrone & welcome to ITFC Ryan.
Been very impressed with Fraser when I've seen him play & think this could potentially be a great deal for ITFC. MM seems to finally be adding pace, width & creativity to the hard work, organisation & team ethic last season was built on. If he can get the blend right then we can really compete next season.
Shame Mings has to go but the fee is too good to turn down & allows us more leeway for wages, loans & maybe even fees!!

Although disappointing to lose one of our better players, as I said yesterday, we simply can not afford to turn this deal down. I now fully expect us to reinvest a significant amount of the cash in not only wages but fees.

Welcome to Frazer and I wish Mings all the best for the future.

Good luck Ty and thanks for your efforts, reading your comments I think that you had a bit of help from some other players getting us into the play offs rather than doing it on your own!! that said you made quite an impact and wish you well in the prem, so now we have an excellent return on our small outlay and we have an up & at em midfielder on a seasons loan and a proven championship goal scorer for 3 years I reckon we've come out of this rather well!!!! come on you blues let's get at Brentford and set a bench mark for the season ahead.

Nobody is digging anyone. I think it's refreshing to see a footballer with a brain who can come up with more than the typical pr speak, and considering the money we just made off of the lad, he doesn't owe anyone here anything! Good luck Tyrone. Top class bloke, top footballer, but most importantly, really good bit of business for itfc.

Just want to say - I love Tyrone Mings!! I swear I called it early that he was worth 10m months ago and wow it has been proven so. Yes he still has to turn that potential in to reality, but I for one think that his raw attributes are so good that it WILL happen. And I think that the right manager can help that. MM is good for many pf our players, but perhaps Ty wasn't going to learn much more from him. Ty needs to learn to play nice football. The Play off semi 2nd leg where our tactic was to pass back to the keeper to hoof it long probably told Mings all he needed to know.

Agree he could've praised MM and Town a bit more in that statement, but I personally appreciate his honesty. We probably all love Bournemouth's style just as we loved Ipswich's under Burley for years, Mings is no different. I hope he can go on to international level. I will continue to follow and support him as if he was a Town player! I love his rags to riches story - fair play to the lad!! I predict a Bale type rise..!

Also exciting for us - 2 good signings and no excuses not to get 2 or 3 more now and have a decent team with some depth and quality that can challenge for automatic - whether they be frees or for fees. COYB!!!

Great piece of business by the town, Mings not worth 8 million in my opinion, we have a better replacement in Parr, pleased to see Pitman arriving on a free (proven goalscorer at this level) don't know much about Fraser sounds like he could be decent, we need a good right back and attacking central midfielder to make up a good squad, let's see some of the fee reinvested and a good season could be coming. Good luck and thanks to Tyrone let's see if he can cut I0 in the premier league, iI'm out sure if will

This deal and comparison with the Cresswell deal are irrelevant. This deal is good foe all parties, us because it helps us strengthen the squad and should mean no other departures of top players, Bournemouth as I genuinely believe Ming's is a top Premiership player and Ming's is going to a good team where he will get the chance to play and develop.

Given the choice I don't think MM would have leg him go but assuming he gets the money to reinvest then he strengthens the squad.

I am a Ming's fan and wish him well and would love to see him score against Norwich and have a great season.

On a different note I am sure I read somewhere that MM has been promoted 2or3 times directly after the season he misses out on the payoffs - let's hope that's true.

IvorFeeling - misses out on the PAYOFFS! I hope you are referring to Mick's lack of a promotion bonus and not saying he threw the games - or maybe it was just a typo.

......... they will be different to 'what you are used to' Tyrone - you'll be able to be adventurous and get forward.

Best of Luck Tyrone - you will be a huge asset to Bournemouth - as you should still have been with us.

Is he worth £8 million. He makes far too many mistakes. But cheers for the money. But why leave us for a side who i can see struggling up in the Prem?

"Earlier in the summer, Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans both said that they were determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer,"
Undoubtably a promising player that Tyrone is, but the above statement points to being perhaps not such a key player as we would think he was.
Yes he had a fantastic first half of last season but definatly faded towards the end, with some errors creeping into his game as would be expected of a young player in his first full season, and at £8M we can't turn that business away.
Tyrone we wish you well with your new club, may you make yourself a bigger name than those that have preceded you and moved on to bigger clubs, but for the right reasons.

@blueboy, totally disagree with your post...how can a championship club turn down 8 million for a player that hasn't proved anything of note. Yes, the lad had a good first season in championship, in which incidently, many on forum displayed displeasure at some of his end of campaign performances!
The reason why Mings turned heads was in fact his positivity going forward, something you seem to believe never happened, or rarely whilst playing under McCarthy!
Such negativity, extremely hard to understand, considering McCarthy's recent additions.

warktheline ....... totally entitled to disagree if you choose to - my opinion is that IF we have ambition to get out of the Championship before we take permanent root, we need to be building the Club with players like Mings very much to the forefront, NOT moving them on. Over recent years this has unfortunately become second nature for us to move on young players with much potential.

And realistically - How much of the 'undisclosed fee' (as it now officially is deemed) will be available to be spent on players ?? - my guess is very little, if any.
I hope I'm wrong, and become pleasantly surprised - but suspect not.
At best I see it being used as provision to bring in a few loans, mainly to bridge gaps left by departures - that is not progress in my book, it's treading water !!

Let's face it - Bournemouth aren't in the game of shipping out star players, so don't expect too much from the incomers, but it seems all we have to do is sign a player, whoever he is, or wherever he comes from and he becomes a star overnight.

Let's just wait and see, what lies ahead this season - should we ????

....... take it as read - he is not the only player in the squad not terribly happy with our style of play, and they also will move on given the chance. Watch this space ...... !!

Brilliant bit of business ITFC....financially, tactically and adding strength with Pittman and Fraser. It is reflective of the impact MM has had on this club......I reflect that I am not Micks biggest fan....however, on the balance of all that he is, I will take it hands down....and whilst we are it,all that Marcus Evans is too....he puts several million into this club each year, a club some £70m plus in debt, pays the sixth highest wages in the Championship 2014/15 season.....and still some Town supporters moan....yes, I wanted to see money spent in January to protect a squad that was on the cusp, yes I wanted to play like Bournemouth did, yes i find the financial complexities that sit behind our club and under Mr Evans watch disturbing ....but I accept all of it, good, bad and indifferent, because the club is going in the right direction under the leadership team in place at Portman Road...I enjoyed being a Town fan last season for the first time in a long time...and I'm really looking forward to this season, because I have confidence, not just shallow optimism...thank you ME And MM...rant over..as I said excellent business....
