Mings: Town Will Always Have a Special Place in My Heart
Friday, 26th Jun 2015 18:38

Departing full-back Tyrone Mings has thanked everyone connected with Town and says the club will always have “a special place in his heart”. The 22-year-old completed his move to AFC Bournemouth earlier today for an initial fee of £8 million rising to £10 million with top-up clauses.

“I’ve had a lot of well wishes from loads of people at the club and plenty of my teammates,” the £10,000 December 2012 signing from Chippenham told the club website.

“Obviously the captain and senior players such as Cole Skuse, Gerks and Luke Hyam have all been in touch.

“These are not just guys I speak to in the dressing room but also they have become lifelong friends, so it’s nice.

“It’s a move I’m really excited to make, although with a hint of disappointment to be leaving Ipswich as I’ve loved my time here.

“I must thank the manager and Terry Connor for giving me a chance from non-league and everybody at the club has been so supportive on this journey.

“The fans have also been great and I just want to say thank you to all the Town supporters. It’s been a learning curve for me but they’ve always stuck with me and I’m grateful to them for that.”

He plans to return to Portman Road at some point to give his old team-mates his support: “Of course I’ll be back, it’s the first place I’d head for.

“This club will always have a special place in my heart and hopefully one day I can come back here and play at Portman Road again to give the fans a proper send off. That’s as long as they give me a good reception of course!”

At this stage there's a lot more that is by no means certain:
1. That it is a good move for Tyrone's own development as a player
2. That any of the £8m fee will be available to spend on transfer fees
3. That Town will sign a new attacking midfield player for any or no money
4. That next season MM will be confident enough in one of his younger, faster wide payers to play him regularly
5. That no more of the Club's talented squad will be sold
6. That all the rejoicing on here will prove to be justified.
I don't like to be negative. I hope Tyrone will go on to have a great career at the top. I hope our new signings do well, having been given the chance. But for me, yesterday was a step back, not a step 'forward'.

I'd go so far as to say i think this is the best piece of business the club has ever done. An 800% profit margin on a player who's only had one full season at Championship level is nothing short of outstanding for our club. The fact its in cash, there's a further 2 million of add-ons and we have Brett Pitman too is staggering.

Clegg and Keane are distant memories.

And you will always have a special place in my heart. The 2 players and money we got for you will make us a better team. Thanks Tyrone and good luck.

It's a little bit more than 800% but yes I agree with all you say :-)

Seems a nice lad and I liked what he did for his Mum, I think as a player he still has some learning to do and in Eddie Howe Bournemouth have a fine young coach. Good luck to you lad, you are a credit to football and our club.

When I said back in Dec/Jan Ty would be worth £8 -£10m by the end of the season , or sooner if one of the big clubs came in for him in the Jan window, people were questioning my judgement. I also said it wouldn't be that long before we see him in an England shirt as the natural Ashley Cole replacement. 1st prediction achieved, 2nd not that far off, maybe 12-18months tops. Good luck Tyrone, wish you well and all the best with your future career and look forward to my 2nd prediction coming to fruition. My only regret was not have a few bob on with the bookies.
