Derby Linked With McGoldrick Move
Wednesday, 8th Jul 2015 10:01

Derby County are reportedly showing interest in Town striker David McGoldrick.

According to The Sun, the Rams are keen on adding the 27-year-old to their striking options and the frontman is claimed to be “open” to the potential switch.

McGoldrick, who was born in Nottingham and has previously represented both Notts County and Nottingham Forest, has a year left on his Town contract.

Speaking last week manager Mick McCarthy said that the Ireland international is determined to make a positive start to Town’s new season having missed most of the final months of 2014/15 due to a troublesome thigh injury.

“It is a big season for him and he knows that,” he said. “We spoke about it at the end of the season and he wants to come back flying.

“He’s having a couple of extra weeks off because he was involved with the Republic of Ireland.

“Hopefully, if he stays injury free, his season will be great, not a problem at all. He’s a top player.”

McGoldrick’s family moved back to the East Midlands last season having been unable to settle in Suffolk but this is not uncommon in football and the striker is understood to be happy at the club.

At the end of last season McCarthy said that the striker was “not looking to move” and issued a hands-off warning on both McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy, with Middlesbrough's recently rebuffed offer of around £4 million reported again by some media sources today. Last summer, Town turned down a £7 million offer for McGoldrick from Leicester City.

Elsewhere, former Town goalkeeper-coach James Hollman, 37, has joined Motherwell in a similar role.

Thought at the time when we were linked with La Fondre that someone had put in a bid on Murf, maybe this Mcgoldrick business was lurking then.

I have no doubt that McGoldrick will be open to a move, but would have thought to a Premier League side. That said Derby have shown some ambition this summer and that could be a driver. Personally I wouldn't sell anyone else. I see little point as the money is unlikely to be reinvested, not on fees anyway. We sold Mings and are now being told by Mick that the current squad is just about there for the opening game of the season. I don't think we have any intention to spend, which is disappointing, so there is little point of selling McGoldrick. Sadly, we seem content on loans and frees and I personally am not keen on seeing any other loans come in, whilst we will be hard pressed to get another free capable of replacing him.

It is indeed on Sky. The story suggests that Boro are talking to his representatives but also that we want 5 mill. Why would we let him talk to them if they haven't made an offer for us to accept?

Id like to see some proper info coming out of the club speculation aside we get nobodies leaving sound bites but people arnt convinced proper info going or not ME might own the club but without us the fans there would be nothing to own.

then maybe raycrawford they were just summarising whats happened in transfer market so far or just guessing at the amount of money. whichever, it clearly not right. and I thought you could rely on sky sports. maybe not after all.

that's why we need some defo info from the club if a deal is done we need to take the lead to stop any cat fighting over speculation.

McGoldrick has wanted away from this club since Leicester came calling. He isn'tIinterested in staying. Are we going to miss another opportunity to demand / accept a big fee for him? He won't be signing any contract extensions that's fir sure. The clock isticking for Town now and thistime next year he will simply walk away for zilch. I don't care how good his technical ability is, if a player doesn't want to stay we won't get the best out of him. He has completed just one full season since he's been.here and there s no guarantee he will recapture that pre injury form and he's not the quickest.

Big decision for Town I think. I'd take the money.

nobody will be negotiating with him because we haven't accepted an offer. so that's rubbish. maybe it wasn't you getting it from nowhere but its still not right. as I said before to raycrawford, why would they bid £4m when weve already turned down £4.5m. so skys info wrong somewhere. unlike them tho tbh

Arnie agree with everything you said I think the passion is gone and we need the money for a replacement I think a lot of it is what he and murphy has done it neither of them do anything next season then that's up to 10 million lost as they wont sign new contracts and we get nothing id rather the 10 mill and bring in a couple of lower league striker like tom bradshaw from Walsall 21yo scored 17 in 28 games that sort of player with passion and wants to play and with 10 years left in the game and if interested was ahead of delle ali in goal scoring charts and where did he go so hes got something.

jas. while I am a bit surprised that we haven't spent some of the mings money, I don't believe its necessarily a disaster. if mm thinks the squad he has is near enuf complete and hes happy with it, then why would he spend much to bring in more players at this moment. taking into account also that we have players coming into the aquad who already here, the likes of Connolly, McDonnell, poss stewart, henshall and the fact hes stated he wants a squad of 22 1st team players, not 29. it will then mean that should things go awry early on we'll have the money to go out and strengthen. I take your point about loan players, but we've only got 2 so thats hardly an issue is it. and u say we couldn't replace mcgoldrick with a free player? why? mcgoldrick himself was a free. and while tjheres no guarantee any replacement would be as good, why couldn't they be?

........ certainly a 'Roller Coaster Ride' being an ITFC Supporter these days - never know what you're buying into from one minute to the next - or what's round the next corner !!

Whatever happened to our once stable Club, where we all had some ambition, vision for the future, and generally we knew what was going on / off on most fronts, if not all.

The MUSHROOM springs to mind - kept in the dark, and fed bull---- , more often than not.

surco. we rejected the £4m pound plus the left back last week so again why would they try that again. not saying that's not what sky sports have said, but its wrong

blues1 .............. admire your foolhardiness or confidence, whichever it is ... !!

You certainly have more faith than many of us.

My old Boss is a Norwich fan & said how good he thought MacG was in his cameo against them in the 2nd leg - We should not be selling him to a Championship rival & not for anything less than the Leicester offer either. He is only 27 & our star man, without doubt.

well lets get a contract put to him hes one year left if he rejects he don't want to stay so cash in simple.

Blueboy, what has faith or nothing else I said got to do with it. My post was based on what was reported on here last week. Would prefer to trust twtd than me other form of media. Whereas u will just be negative regardless of the facts. Really wonder why u support the club the way u talk. Or maybe u just trying to constantly get a reaction to ur posts. Whichever, lighten up. We're only just into July. Plenty of time before we need to panic about the coming season. And no, I'm not just putting a positive spin on it. I have concerns but won't be getting negative just yet

I agree with jas0999. Mr McCarthy has done wonders with a very limited budget, but how long can that go on? We are in danger of becoming a selling club, with our best players first out of the door and little or nothing spent on the squad. If we sell the likes of Mings, Murphy, McGoldrick, etc and do not replace them with equally competent players (which will involve spending money on transfer fees) then we can forget about promotion.

blueboy1981 added 19:33 - Jul 8
blues1 .......... 'plenty of time before we need to panic' ?????? ....... REALLY.

In my opinion we are perilously close to the new season - and at this moment in time, the Manager, Owner, and not a single Supporter knows what the team, or indeed squad, will be come the first game.

Now that is a state of complete flux - and not good in my opinion, for a supposedly ambitious Club

That's the truth of the matter - and whilst you will, of course, be satisfied MANY will not.
If that is construed by you, or whoever, as being 'negative' - so be it.

Ipswich business. I don't disagree with much of what you say but please tell me this. If we sign the competent replacements u mention in ur post, what does it natter if wecpay a transfer fee for them or not. Paying a fee doesn't make them a better player. Just means they not out of contract. And vice versa
1

topguy added 19:37 - Jul 8
if another contract cannot be arranged with didsy you would want him stay another year and leave on a free than sell him now that makes no sense we are a business and if a player doesn't want to stay with one year left you get what you can for him and move on doesn't matter who they are him staying with one year left on his contract is fine if we get promotion but what if we don't then we lose out to someone elses benefit.

.......... IF we sign the 'competent replacements' ............ I think we have heard that word IF many times before.

Ever heard of 'pay peanuts - get monkeys' ........... not always the case, (as some brainbox will highlight) but not a bad general rule of thumb, to be honest.

All the indications point to us being an 'also ran Club' , and continuing to be so - my points, and so called negativity, is because -I WANT US TO BE DIFFERENT TO THAT.

In my book that means caring for the Club I support - FINANCIALLY - and not just verbally - equally, and perhaps much more than some of you - who expect little, or NOTHING very much.
