Murphy Signs New Deal
Wednesday, 15th Jul 2015 14:42

Town striker Daryl Murphy has signed a new two-year deal with the Blues, effectively ending the speculation regarding his future.

Rumours that the Irish international, the subject of much transfer speculation this summer, had extended his stay with the Blues began to circulate on the TWTD Forum last night.

Murphy previously had a year to run on the contract he signed last July, with the club having an option for a further season. The new deal takes the 32-year-old through to the end of June 2017. We understand the club again has an option for a further year.

“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract,” Murphy told Ipswich Player HD.

“All summer I have heard the rumours and seen the stories in the papers and I’ve had my family and friends ringing me and asking me what’s going on.

“I kept telling them I wasn’t going anywhere and not to believe everything they read in the papers.

“I was just trying to enjoy my holiday. I knew that I’d be here at Ipswich when I came back for pre-season and I’m just pleased now that it’s all out of the way.

“I have always said I’m happy and settled here and that has never changed. I have never thought about moving and now, having signed a new contract, I can put all that speculation talk to bed and look forward to the new season.”

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Giovani Dos Santos, 26, has joined MLS champions LA Galaxy on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Villarreal.

An old fashioned centre forward in every way .... A player who loves his game and his team!

Excellent news. Now let's regard Murphy's faith by strengthening our very small squad, with permanent players who actually cost a fee.

What's the matter Cromwellblue-did you have money on Murph going to Middlesbro'?

jas0999-players do not HAVE to cost a fee to be good-Murphy,McGoldrick,Berra etc etc

....... good news this - but of course doesn't mean he can't / won't be sold if the right offer comes in.

Anyone who knows Murph' knows he wants this seasons squad to be capable of 'doing the business' - and not falling at the last fence.

Now go out and do the business for him MM / ME - and boost the squad to that effect.

Murph' did his bit last season, and has now done it again - let's back him ITFC.

Great news. Was vital to our whole style of play last season & even if we do change our style this season, will remain an important part of the team.
Things are coming together nicely, just a full back or 2 & possibly more midfield cover & we're ready to go.
Not sure it matters whether they cost a fee or not, as long as they will fit into our squad & will improve our squad.
Mick on the whole has got his purchases spot on & I suspect can be trusted to do it again

blueboy1981-on 9th July you said(I think I am quoting correctly) "Murphy wants a move-SIMPLE"

Any idea why he (apparently) changed his mind?

Maybe he,like a lot of us,thinks the future is bright at PR?

Just a thought.

The bloke is a modern day pro. Came down here on loan impressed earned himself a contract has had his critics and always been a work horse and had season of dreams last year. He is blue through and through and this is HIS club. The bloke came here with mixed reaction but now I'm sure he is the first name on the team sheet and the name all the kids want on the back of their shirts. I really hope he has another great season his work rate deserves it and not to be known as a one season wonder. He's had his chance to move on and have one final shot at premiership but he's a pro who wants to repay the manager for giving him this role and belief and also the fans as he is a true blue. Honestly I hope this guy gets a testimonial with us for when he hangs his boots up.

....... PJH - 'why did he change his mind' .... ?? .... is that such a mind twister ??

Even more simple - ' he was offered a deal which suited him, and maybe, just maybe, given some assurance of strengthening of the squad for this season' - make no mistake, he certainly wants that.

OR blueboy1981-maybe he never wanted to leave to start with?
(Despite you insisting that he did).

In fact he is quoted as saying he never wanted to leave.

Anyway, looking forward to Brentford on 8th August.

I really cannot understand why some are being so negative. It's great that DM has signed a new contract. Yes he is probably going to be paid more and yes it is possible he will not score as many goals as in the 2014/15 season. But to be honest there is no way we would be able to compete against what would be offered by Prem Clubs, but he chose to stay loyal (YES LOYAL) to ITFC.

So please you negative so called ITFC supporters please either support the Club or bugger off. COYB's

I think its great news, ends speculation for now, yes could still be sold but less likely and hopefully settles things down for the time being. lets be honest he was a diamond last year and deserved a new deal even at his age. Still fancy he will bang in 15 goals plus this season and no deffence will look forward to him giving them hell especially ywith Sears and McG running them ragged. Bring on the new season.

PJH ..............Murphy would not have been the first player to have left ITFC - by choice - sometimes it is essential for a multitude of reasons.

And if you think Murphy was going to be happy to stay here just to 'play on' - think again, or alternatively believe what you want. Your choice.

He has ambition - I admire him for it.

........ how LOYAL is a Supporter who tells others to 'bugger off' ???????????? ............. such a comment doesn't really justify a reply of any kind.

As if ANY Club can currently afford for that to happen !!!!!! ................ I rest my case.

After all it takes all sorts - and allsorts I guess.

Thought for a moment that you might have lost your 100% record of always being right blueboy1981.

Now it is clear,Murphy wanted to leave because he has got ambition. Now Murphy wants to stay because he has got ambition.

This is excellent news. Reward for all Daryl's hard work, turning from average to excellent. The season before wasn't bad but last season was stellar for him. Yes, with hindsight, it was either going to be a new deal with Town or a move elsewhere, and before I make the next comment (again) I accept that for the most part we are not a selling club. Mings money? This could probably have been done without it and keeping one of our brightest prospects for the longer term future.
